The Tigers' homepage is calling it "extra rest" for Verlander. (http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060804&content_id=1592806&vkey=news_det&fext=.jsp&c_id=det)

Here's a piece from the article.

Now we know step two of the Tigers' plan for keeping rookie sensation Justin Verlander from burning out down the stretch.

A month after the Tigers used the All-Star break to give Verlander an extended rest, manager Jim Leyland said his 23-year-old right-hander will skip his scheduled start Sunday against the Indians. Instead, he'll make his next outing in next Friday's series opener against the White Sox in Chicago, giving him nine days of rest.

Great... they're saving him to begin the series against us!

You beat me to it. They are effectively giving him 9 days of rest, but he admits he's had some muscle soreness.

We completely rocked this guy once already this year. Lets do it again.

No worries in Tigertown. They have their ace going tomorrow (probably the only guy they have who can out-suck Paul Byrd) and Wilfredo Ledezma taking Verlander's spot against Captain Cheeseburger on Sunday.

Jim Leyland REALLY wants to rub it in. He's saving Verlander for the Sox series. This cat ain't messing around. We need to make a move on them this series. Psychologically, IT"S HUGE!

way to jinx it man.

Way to predictably show up in this thread.

Can't wait till next weekend to see how the closeted Tigers fans handle themselves.

I'm going to be out of town for that series.:whiner:

I'm looking forward to those 3 games. A sweep by one of the teams means a death blow by the Tigers or the start of something interesting.

GO SOX!!!

What do you consider "rocked?"

The game in April he was tagged for 7ER, in June we got 4 runs of him.

We've been able to hit him, but I don't know about "rocking" him...

7 hits, 2 HR, 7 ER, 1 BB, O K, 2.2 IP. That rocks.
