Good thoughts and prayers for Paulie.

Also, not to hijack, but has Thome's wrist recovered to the point that will be available to DH?

I heard DJ say pre game wrists were fine, it was a back spasm that came on this afternoon that kept him out of the DH spot today.

Thome says the back spasms started yesterday. It is all detailed in an article at whitesox.com. It likely isn't anything serious, but it needs to run its course before he can return.

I really hope Paul-ee is OK, but we have enough offense providing Thome will be OK. If we are going to make the post-season, it's all on the pitching.

The second half trio of Uribe, Anderson and the Gloadinator could probably match or out-perform the first half trio of Uribe, Anderson and Konerko with the offensive improvements of Uribe and Anderson. Twisted logic....but my point is it's all on the pitching anyway for the next 8 weeks.

Ross may not hit for power like Konerko, but I think Ross would make the best of his playing time. Not many teams that have a guy like Ross riding the pine, he plays great defense, hustles, has decent speed and can hit.

That wasn't on purpose, it was obvious. A game or two for PK to heal is fine. His shin is still bothering him too. Let's face it, he hasn't exactly been himself lately anyway. Let him get a couple of days rest, he'll come back with a vengenance and help carry this team to the post season.

People get hit on accident all the time. It's part of the game. We don't want other teams hitting us when one of our pitchers lets one accidentally slip. The point of retaliating is to minimize the amount of time we get hit by telling other teams there will be consequences for doing it on purpose. If we start doing it every time whether it's intentional or not, other teams will start doing it when we hit them unintentionally and the amount of times the Sox are hit will rise, not fall.

Let him get a couple of days rest, he'll come back with a vengenance and help carry this team to the post season. I was thinking the same thing. Lately I've been seeing the same PK that goes into prolonged slumps, hangs his head when he strikes out, slumps his shoulders when a strike is called, mopes to first base when he grounds out, throws his bat down when he flies out. Hopefully a little rest will help clear his head out. Before last year people (including myself) got on Pauly because he seemed like a head case and was always hard on himself which was detrimental to his performance. A little time off maybe won't hurt him and the team considering Gload is doing fairly well lately.

Lemons outa lemonade. You are right though, I was thinkin lately much the same, ya never, until just recently saw PK ever show any displeasure on a bad strike call, and he's had his share, until just recently, or as you mentioned chucking his bat at the ground after he pops out, just kinda uncharacteristic of him. He jsut seems a little out of sorts right now,(or as Carl Spangler would say,"a lil psychotic lately"):redneck . So yes maybe a few days rest is just what the Dr. ordered. A tough way to go about getting it, but maybe will cure some other aches and pains as well.

Does he get in these funks because he's trying to pull everything (to LF) regardless of where it's pitched or is the above a result of his being in a funk? I've been looking at it for 7 years now. He might want to take a look at how Gload hits the ball where it's pitched. Anyhoo, the time off may be just what he needs.

I think Konerko goes a little psychotic when the team is struggling, which we had been up until this road trip. He tried to take it upon himself to pull the team out of the slump. While that's a noble attitude, it doesn't work too well. I agree that a couple days off could help Paulie. Sit him tomorrow and take advantage of the off day on Thursday.

Yeah, Paulie just needs a couple of days off, that's all. Thankfully it was nothing worse. Does anybody know if Big Jim will be back for the series finale? I hope so. If not, we still have JD and Joe Crede to pick things up! Man, this team is awesome! The Sox still have two guys with over 20 homers in the lineup!

The Sox are leaning toward resting Thome tomorrow. They need him healthy for Friday. We face Halladay the first game in Toronto.

Cintron, Mackowiak and Gload are all swinging the bat well in this series. Hopefully, the bench gang can help carry us through one more game in Kansas City.

It is the Royals they are playing tonight...if Paulie and Thome need a day or so of rest to nurse some minor injuries, I couldn't think of another team I would rather they do it against. With the off day Thursday and a tough stretch of the schedule coming up starting Friday, we need these two to be rested and injury free. The PK-less lineup posted in another thread should be able to get the job done tonight as long as Freddy doesn't implode.

I don't think there is any case whatsoever where Paul's getting batting tips from Gload.

The Sun-Times reported this morning that Thome might play tonite but that Ozzie was leaning towards one more day off because of the off day and he would definately be ready Friday.

Even though the hbp was unintentional, it makes an excellent point for staying out of the beanball wars that Ozzie's Latino machismo can't seem to ignore. We're in a pennant race which goes well beyond settling petty scores on the field. You get a key guy hurt, and suddenly the antics of a Padilla don't seem so important anymore.

So who's the DH....Cintron? Mack? Ozuna? Sandy?

I doubt it would be Sandy. You can also throw Pods and Uribe in the mix for DH.

The only good I can say about this is at least if Paulie goes down, Gload has been swinging the bat pretty well.

Rogowski has good numbers at AAA. .292-10-66 and 24 steals.

Whether he can hit big league pitching is another question.

caulfield12

Casey Rogowski is not going to be enough to get it done in the heat of a pennant race....they would undoubtedly go after someone like Reggie Sanders through the waiver wire, although that can be complicated by other teams playing poker with you.

The only hitter they believe is CLOSE to ready is Fields, and his strikeout ratio screams Brian Anderson-esque if he were to play a lot in August and Sept. Although there are certainly many who have a ton of confidence in Josh and feel he's a potential star.
