That will be fun losing him at the end of the season with nothing in return!

Draft pick or Ervin Santana? Hmmm...:D: Depends on the strength of the draft I guess... Maybe Nats see something they like in next years draft?

I never heard anything about the Angels offering Ervin Santana. If they were willing to give up the same package they offered for Tejada, I imagine Jim Bowden would have made the trade the second they offered it.

would they have gotten Santana? I'm a big Bowden hater to but this team is in transition. I think giving him big money for 4 years would be a huge mistake but right now he's the only guy on the Nats who could be considered a Star. Maybe the fear pissing off their small fan base.

Soriano has said he wants to stay with the Nats if he can, so perhaps they're putting their hopes in a hometown discount.

I may have the package offers mixed up; it was Ervin for Tejada. Either way, Bowden could have clearly gotten more value from a trade than from a couple of draft picks.

At least he didn't end up with the Twins. They seemed to be one of the finalists.

As much as I would have liked to see him on the White Sox, I'm glad that he's staying put. His #s in the NL are definately helping my fantasy team.

Who has waiver priority if they put him on waivers? KC?

I would think you want to replace Soriano with Magglio and Nats with White Sox... remember how that turned out?

Who has waiver priority if they put him on waivers? KC?It goes by league in reverse order of record. So all the NL teams would get first crack before KC.

According to Will Carroll's blog on BP, the Angels offered Santana + Aybar for Soriano, which was not accepted:

The Angels final offers for both Tejada and Soriano were the same: Ervin Santana (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/dt/santaer01.shtml) and Erick Aybar. Dallas McPherson (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/dt/mcpheda01.shtml) was discussed but never formally offered. Both deals failed to happen. The Tejada deal was killed by his insistence on playing shortstop, something confirmed by a team official. The Angels feel like they tried on several deals, but came up as the second-best option in every case but Soriano.

Has Will Carroll ever gotten a trade right? I'm not buying.

The Tejada deal was reported in LA, but not this Soriano deal.

Frankly, the Angels are better off not making any of those deals. With Colon and Escobar having health questions, they need Santana. And Aybar's a damn good player too...
