if the sox miss the playoffs you can look on the bright side i bet there will be alot of good seats available for season packages next season.

i could look on the bright side and say that atleast we won the World Series last year and the Cubs don't look like they will have a chance for the next 20 years. I am so happy with last year's win that I could deal with this year's little slump. and the season is not over yet. i think we'll turn it around.

Boys, it is way early to talk like that. If we are 8.5 out in mid September, go ahead. But give them a shot to come into their game and make some noise. I'm as aggravated with the way they are playing as anyone else. But being 0.5 games outta the wild card and having 10 left against the team ahead of them gives them a shot to do some damage.

I agree with the season packages, cubs sucking etc........just hold off on all that junk for a while.

How in the hell is that looking on the bright side? Let me lay it out for you.

Alot of good seats/good season packages available= NO $$$$ to keep current players and to sign free agents.

Not being able to keep current players and sign free agents= non-competetive baseball i.e. no playoffs/ World Series.

January. That's right.

I can ACTUALLY see a bright side to the Sox not making the playoffs. We'll see a steady decline of these people until the Sox clinch in 2007.

I'll take the playoffs in 2006, however. Morons be damned.

As my post-count would suggest, I've been mostly a lurker on this board since I joined in March of '05.

What I've observed this year is a little disheartening. What I loved about this board was the honest, intelligent, discourse on the Sox. The operative word there, btw, is intelligent. What I've seen lately is the same crap that I ridicule fans of the North Side team for which is basically a complete lack of understanding of the game of baseball. Suddenly, everyone "sucks" and we need to "get rid" of so and so. No one has ever accused me of being a pollyanna when it comes to the Sox, but throwing in the towel and making concession speeches before August is completely asinine.

Im 110% sure that there is about 50 threads in the past month that have people venting in it...and they are way better then this one.

I am still in complete awe that you would find a positive side of no playoffs as being well at least i can get my tix easier next year. Use craigslist or ticket exchange. the day of games you can basically get them for face. it takes work and if you are a sox fan and really want to see a game that bad you may type in a few letters and click a few buttons to look up tickets.

well, the bright side for me would be that it would really help out my first semester grades.

I got a B in my marketing course last year solely because of the world series.

game 3 was the night before a test, and my plan was to just "study after the game." that didn't work very well. I studied for like a half hour...

There is no bright side in going from champions to not making playoffs. You either win a championship or you fail.

Look on the bright side, if they don't make the playoffs that means less of a chance of attending a game when it's cold out.

There is no bright side in going from champions to not making playoffs.

There is if you are not really a Sox fan but a jealous Cubs fan. Looking over the profile and body of work I sense the possible presence of a troll -- and unusually restrained one, flying under the radar to needle us. To me, this thread is kissing cousin to the Cubbie attendance brag, and then there was the thrill-is-gone post about the falling prices of replica rings being sold on-line. Time will tell, I guess.

Meanwhile, jason, the Sox could have sold many more season tickets than they did but wanted to preserve single-game tickets for the fans. It's unlikely that many season ticket holders (particularly the corporate ones) would drop off the rolls if the Sox were to miss the playoffs one year, especially if they are in it to the end, win 90+ and miss by a game or two. If some do, there is a long waiting list. It's called pent-up demand.

And if I'm wrong and you really are a genuine Sox fan and are not sitting there trying to figure out a subtle way to post about the Cubbie sweep of the Cards without outing yourself, my apologies -- but you brought it on yourself. And we'll both be happy when the Sox DO make the playoffs, so it's all good.
