Do you still think he's the most useless player on the club after last night? I never thought he was useless because he's our backup if either Thome or Konerko go down.

I don't think he's useless. He's fine in the role he's in. Through the last couple years, I've argued with the FORG who insist Ross would go .300/30/100 if the Sox would give him an every-day opportunity. I think that's ridiculous, but I do think Gload has value as a left-handed bat off the bench.

i dunno if ross would hit 300 but id hate to see him go start for a team in our division
and he seems to come through in the clutch an awful lot

I hold petty grudges, but last night's grand slam went a long way toward helping me forgive Ross for ballerina-dancing around the Twins' catcher late in '04 (after Toriiiiii had destroyed Jamie Burke a month earlier).

Well, you have to take into account that Politte and Widger are gone, so the bottom of the totem pole is....

If you want to go off of stats from last night it would've been 0-for-5 Crede.. Something wrong with him? Is his back buggin' him again?

Me too, even if it is only based on his effort. Ross hits a grounder to second, and you can tell he should be out by a mile, but he is absolutely busting his ass to try to beat the play out. I love seeing him go all out and I wish more of our players would follow his example.

I love how when someone does well (in most cases unexpectedly) there's automatically a thread that supports him. :rolling:

"I told you so!"

I like Gload as well (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1153851&postcount=8)

By the way, this thread sucks.

I have never bad mouthed him, so this doesnt apply to me. I love seeing players go the extra mile for the team, and to me Ross fits that criteria perfectly. He is an excellent player to have coming off of our bench.

He's no Mike Squires defensively but I like his bat on the bench.

I think Gload haters are nuts. I've never said a bad word about Gload. I've always liked him and I feel bad that he doesn't get enough playing time.

He still is useless. I would rather have a 12th pitcher. Thanks for the granny though.

He made a nice play on Corey Patterson yesteday, took away extra bases.

Not a bad first baseman, plus the occasional clutch hit. We could do worse. (and we have)

As someone said earlier, I wouldn't want him hanging around another central divsion team, haunting the Sox.

Amen. The Sox need more speed and more hustle.

Here's the deal with Ross. If he played everyday he might hit .280 with 10-15 dingers. Now, this would be nice production for a second baseman and would likely merit him a starting or platoon spot with a major league club. However, at first base, it's not enough to be more than a 24th or 25th-type guy. You need more production from your first baseman. That doesn't mean he's useless.

Somebody's got to be the 25th man on a team. That someone, up until recently at least, has been Gload. That doesn't necessarily make him a bad ballplayer.

He can play defense, has some speed and as we've seen, can come through with big hits and in the words of Ozzie, is a true professional. He does need to learn how to walk and get his OBP up, but his .288 average isn't bad. As a backup player, I like him.

Makes no sense at all.

The haters way outnumber the supporters. I've always defended him against idiotic comments against him. But I WILL say that just cuz he hit one granny doesn't mean complete forgiveness for any player's slump or imaginary slump as with Gload. The guy's doing a "fair" job in OF, despite being out of his element. I too would REALLY not like to see him starting in the central.

Well we can't do the "official" Ross Gload appreciation thread till he's released or traded, can we?

Ross Gload isn't a pitcher...therefore, he isn't a problem on this team.

I'm not a Gload hater. I just think the Sox would benefit much more if they could find a left-handed backup CF who could hit as well as Gload. This way, Ozzie wouldn't stubbornly continue to start Mackowiak in CF every third game and have Mack serve as the late-inning defensive replacement for Brian Anderson in half of the other games that Mackowiak doesn't start.

It's too bad Ross can't play CF.
