The Seattle Mariners (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/sea/) acquired first baseman Ben Broussard (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6633/) from the Cleveland Indians (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/cle/) on Wednesday for a minor league outfielder. The Indians sent Broussard and cash to the Mariners for Shin-Soo Choo (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7498/) and a player to be named later.

Nice to see a bopper like big Ben out of our division. Hopefully more get dumped by the Toons.

Martinez must be moving to 1B shortly.

Broussard has been in Wedge's doghouse all year for some reason. Nice pickup for the M's, they got a quality player.

He hasn't been in his doghouse. The problem was that Victor Martinez is as good of a defensive catcher as Ryan Leaf was an NFL QB. With Martinez at first, Broussard was reduced to a platoon role. He's a pretty good hitter, and the Mariners definitely upgraded in the DH spot. Sexson/Broussard is a nice platoon as well.

No they are pretty committed to him at catcher, for better or worse. They are bring up some prospect named Garko I think.

Didn't the M's get Tony Perez's son (can't think of his first name) from the Indians a month or so ago? I guess that didn't pan out.

One less Sox killer in the division.

They are supposed to use Eduardo Perez as the DH against lefties and Ben Broussard as the DH against Righties.

Looks like a good get right now for the M's. Just can't wait to see when the Sox start some major dealing, if they do.

Kind of weird how the Mariners have traded for the Indians 1B platoon in two separate trades. :?:

Choo's another speedster. It seems to me that our divisional foes are trying to exploit our catchers' weakness in throwing out runners.

EDIT: Thinking about it, maybe picking up Crazy Carl woudn't be a bad idea. Does Gload still have options?

i think gload is out of options. if i remember correctly, both he and borchard were out of them going into spring training.

What's is bizarre about this is that Broussard is going to join the M's when they come to Cleveland tomorrow for a 3 game series. That has to be about the weirdest situation a player could have. He basically just moves his stuff to the other locker room and waits for the team to get there to give him his uniform.

Between the two teams playing? Wow...that seems vaguely familiar.

I remember quite vividly the Joel Youngblood situation from the early 80s (mostly because they'd run it on This Week In Baseball all the time). He played for two different teams on the same day. I think he was traded from the Expos to the Giants...so he played a day game in Montreal and hopped a plane and got to the Giants game in time to play.

EDIT- Just looked it up on Retrosheet.

August 4, 1982. Youngblood was traded from the Mets to the Expos. He played a day game as a Met against the Cubs at Wrigley. He was traded, hopped a plane to Phily, and played a night game as an Expo against the Phillies.

He collected his stuff and walked over the the other clubhouse. On second thought, it might have been right before the game. Memory's getting a little fuzzy. Either way, it's pretty wierd.
