Will August be the month that determines the season? The Sox finish July and play the first 2 days in August against KC and then have an off day. The Sox will then play 24 straight games in August starting on the 4th, and these are the teams they play and how many games:

@ Toronto (3)
Vs. LA (1)
Vs. NYY (3)
Vs. DET (3)
Vs. KC (4)
@ MIN (3)
@ DET (4)
Vs. MIN (3)

They then have an off day and finish the month at home against Tampa Bay. So, will August determine the season or not for the Sox?

The Sox have 63 games left, and they are all equally important.

i would say no, because anything could still happen in september. i will say that with baltimore and kc coming up hopefully they could get some momentum going because right after that it is a tough streach.

No. The rest of the season will decide things.

It certainly is going to be important. 17 games within the division; opportunity to make a statement and turn the tide and AFFECT these other teams directly. It's going to be a key month to change attitude and perspective for us as well as everyone else that stands in our way.

I voted yes.

I voted yes, but I'm not sure we can make the season in august. we can definitely break it though.

August and Everything After is not only a great album, but it is also the deciding factor on whether we play in October. July is pretty much done and over with, and in spite of a horrible performance as of late, we are still contenders. However, our window of opportunity is quickly closing. Either we make a run for it in August, or we can write off September along with October.

The Sox have 63 games left, and they are all equally important.Actually, the games against Detroit are more important. Those are the games when we have complete control of our position in the standings.

You can only win the game you're playing today.

By the way, who would you rather see win this weekend, Twins or Tigers? If you say Twins, you're nuts.

I don't think it could get much worse than the July we've been through this year. If any month is going to be the one that breaks our season it would have to be July.

I think that the only place we have to go is up. So, as for August and September they only have th chance to make our season, nothing worse.

I don't think we'll be talking about any month breaking our season quite frankly. I still think we're headed to the playoffs.

I voted yes, but that's not 100% correct.

If we don't play good baseball in August, it's all over - so it's going to determine if we have a chance at post-season or not.

You can only win the game you're playing today.Hey, I was specifically told there would be no philosophy on this board! Yes, we can only win the game we are playing on any given date, but some of those games are more important than other games. The games are not all equally important as you claimed.

By the way, who would you rather see win this weekend, Twins or Tigers? If you say Twins, you're nuts.Nothing nuts about it. I want the Twins to sweep, along with a White Sox sweep. We gain ground, the Tigers lose ground, and the Twins stay exactly where they belong... in third place.

It'll be a dogfight the rest of the year if the Sox start playing better. If this continues; you're absolutely right, August will close the door.

But I voted No because they will play better and make September very interesting.

Here's how this breaks down...we play like we have for the last 2 weeks during the month of August, and we are out of it.

We play well, and catch a break here and there, we are in it...for both the Division and Wildcard.

Good plan, just need execution of it.

We're playing so bad right now (and it's July 26th...) that we can't afford even a mediocre August--the Sox have to play at least .600 ball in the next 37 days to be in a position to contend for the Wild Card, much less a quickly fading shot at the division title.

At this point, the next 2 and a half weeks will make or break the seaon. We're playing Detroit and New York again between 8/9 and 8/13. Where we're at after that will tell us whether we're going to be around come September.

Apparently you Twinkie fans should take a gander at the Tigers fans posts and see how they act.

I say no. As much as I hate to say it July killed this team and there most likely done. I hope they prove me wrong.

No offense, but have you ever watched baseball for an entire season? Jeez. A stretch of play where your team goes 7-8 games under for a month DOES NOT kill your season. If that was the case, the Astros should've folded up last year when they were 15-30. The Sox should've folded up in August when they were 12-19. The Indians should've stopped playing when they were "done" in late July, with the White Sox up 15 games.

This is the crap that kills me. People who get so caught up in what is CURRENTLY GOING ON that they fail to realize that slumps end, pitchers do turn it around, and hitting definitely becomes contagious.

Wow.

No kidding. The Twins pitching staff puts teams into hitting slumps. Once you face lesser pitchers, you'll be fine. Silva should be a nice cure for you today. He's terrible. Describing his pitching as "Batting Practice" is a compliment. Besides, it's not like the W.Sox are losing these games 8-2, or 11-1, they are in EVERY stinking game, and a couple of inches here or there are the difference. That matters. ...

Apparently you Twinkie fans should take a gander at the Tigers fans posts and see how they act.

I can't stand fans like this. "Hey guys, I totally talked "smack" to them. They banned me after 5 posts, but I got them with a totally awesome Hunter photo from 2 years ago. heh heh."

No it's not do-or-die becuase there are two months left to the season. But I still voted yes because August is easily Detroit's toughest month. Aside from Tampa Bay to start it off, they play nothing but playoff caliber teams plus Cleveland who should be tough on them as well. And of course we get six cracks at them.

If Detroit is going to go into an extended slump it'll be in August but I still think September decides the divisional and wild card races.

Exactly. The Sox need to tread water and stay in this race until September, then turn on the jets.

Agreed. If the Sox play decent, acceptable baseball during August, then the season will be decided in September. If they don't, then unfortunately, September may not really mean much.

I voted yes because I think the Sox will pick up momentum in August that will carry them on through the finish of the season.

It's such a game of streaks -- now the buzz is all about the Twins, who are incredibly hot, but earlier in the season they were stone cold. The Tigers have been hot for a long, long stretch, and it's reasonable to expect them to have a cold spell sometime in the season. They might not; they might be a miracle team. C'est la vie. But I won't give them credit for that until it happens.

August is when the Sox gear it up and start kickin' ass (can I say that?) and takin' names.

ETA: actually, they're going to start this afternoon, and I will be watching from Section 103!

Wow. I know I am speechless about this slump right now but this baffles me as much as the last statement like this. This is baseball 162 games a year. Sure we are all about to start hitting the bottle pretty soon(some of us have already:D: ) some would probably like to pretend the Sox dont exist just to rest easy for a few days but my God there is still 2 months left of the season that is ALOT of damn games to play. Did you not see last years stretch? We were 15 games up and at the end we were struggling to hold the 1st place position.

It is a bold statement to say a team is done with the potential we have. They know as much as we know that they can take this **** they just have to get their heads out of their ass and start clicking as a team.

That's ridiculous. Why are people like you so convinced that other teams will undoubtedly stay super hot while the Sox (the team you're supposed to be supporting) will undoubtedly stay so cold? Can you explain that?
