Their pitching has struggled recently. Even yesterday, Bonderman was not great as he gave up a couple of homers and got roughed up a little bit. Their offense has won most of their games for them recently.

Good to see Rogers get roughed up tonight. Let's make it a White Sox Winner and pick up that game on the Tiggers that we lost last night

how bad is Young's defense at first base?

I would think their best lineup right now would look something like this:

Granderson-CF
Polanco-2B
Pudge-C
Mags-RF
Guillen-SS
Young-1B
Thames-LF
Monroe-DH
Inge-3B

Shelton is surprisingly good as a defensive first baseman. Young isn't bad however. I was at the game the other day and he made a great scoop so I think he can do it. Yeah, that looks about like the lineup I would use too, except I would probably stagger Youg and Guillen since they are switch hitter, and everyone around them bats right handed.

This is not a trolling comment, this is a fact: The only decent start Rogers has had in a long while has been against the Sox. I think the slide has been gaining steam for a while now.

Rogers didn't even pitch all that well against the Sox. They just seem to have forgotten how to hit with runners on base...

You may be right, but holding the Sox to one run is six innings is good, whether he is responsible or they did it to themselves.

He made a few starts earlier in the year and struggled. Cleveland moved him to the pen and he has done really well. However, he is brand new at closing. Cleveland is very big on him, that is part of the reason they moved Wickman.

So he's done well in the pen, but we don't know if that will translate to being a good closer I guess.

Its funny how valuable people believe closers to be. A lot of Tiger fans are calling for Jones to lose his closing job to Zumaya. But the question is, why would you want your best reliever (Zumaya for the Tigers) coming into an inning with no one on only needing to get three outs, something any major league pitcher should be able to do most of the time. Since Zumaya is not the closer, it allows Leyland to bring him into tense situations with runners on in any inning. In a way, Jones is actually protected by being the closer. He gets to come into a reasonable situation every time, while Zumaya does all the dirty work.

Agreed and it seems like Zumaya can go more than one inning, so you have the option to throw him 7-8th, like NYY used to do with Mariano when Wetteland was the closer.
