View Full Version : For Stat-Heads: Anybody Know Hottest Sox Streaks Over the Years?

I've been mulling over this amazing run by the stinkin' Twins...all the more amazing that they've been missing some key players whilst winning 32 out of 40 games. Over that long of a stretch, .800 ball is just amazing (I know we'd all dance with joy if the Sox could pull off an 8 of 10 win run right about now). All of which leads to my question--I can never remember a Sox team--not even the '83 Winning Ugly team--having a run that good over a comparable period of time. So, anybody with an idea what the best comparable Sox run might be over a 30 or 40 game streak?

Add to the fact the ridicoulous run the Indians went on last year at the end of the year and the Tigers run this year. Geez, I'd be happy for a 6-4 run from either the Twins or Tigers right now. What is with this division the past 2 years, just plain amazing.

The 1906 Sox won 19 in a row (http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/VCHA01906.htm). Maybe we can petition the league to let us wear the throwback jerseys starting August 2.

The last 66 games of 1983 comes to mind when they went 50-16. I'd like to see a repeat of that. That possibly would win the division.

August 22-9 0.710

September 22-6 0.786

I think those last 2 months in 83 are pretty amazing. When it really counted. Also went 2-0 in October.

Nice catch! On 7-25-1983 the Sox were 49-46 (http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/VCHA01983.htm). What a tremendous run they made!

The Sox won the second game of a doubleheader on June 11, 1961. It was the beginning of a hot spell which saw them winning 19 out of 20. Unfortunately the momentum didn't last, they finished 23 games behind the Yankees. From May 4 to June 11, 1951 the Sox went 25-4, on their way to a 32-11 start. They finished at 81-73. This was the first of 17 winning seasons in a row. In 1957 they got off to a 31-12 start, and finished at 90-64. The 1963 White Sox finished the season at 23-6. In 1965 a 23-8 start gave hope for a pennant, but they finished 7 games behind the Twins.

Yeah, .757...not bad over 66 games! Not quite at the Twins current blazing level (especially remembering not having Hunter, etc.) but awfully good. It'll be interesting to see what the Twinks do over the next 16 games to see if they match the '83 Sox. I'm all for them dropping the next 16 in a row..starting tonight!! :D:
