The 2005 Jon Garland is back! I completely loved this game. I had something to do but I couldn't tear myself away from this game. It was totally well-played by the Sox. Great SP, RP, D and O. It's so nice to feel happy again.

see, this is the sort of game that we've needed.

Not just a win, a win doing everything this team does well. This is how we needed to end the losing streak. winning 9-8 or something like that wouldn't have helped as much.

For all the people that have gotten on me in the past for saying that this team has been playing bad baseball and has not lived up to its potential, this is an example of living up to its potential.

the bottom of the lineup manufactured runs, great pitching, power. In theory, this team can do everything. It's nice to see us living up to that.

great game. let's hope this starts the turn around.

Here's to Jon Garland :gulp:

Maybe, just maybe...this is the game that starts a nice run.

The team played to their strengths today. Pitching, defense, moving runners along. And a couple homers. Home runs and Ozzieball are not mutually exclusive.

The Twins will have their hands full now that the Sox--I truly believe--have some of their swagger back.

And I'll say this in direct response to an awful thread here:

Scott Podsednik, your table is ready.

Great game by Jon today. He looked awesome. I was a little worried today because we've been on a losing streak, and Ozzie fielded a few of the back ups in today's starting line up.

But the team executed very well today. Jon G, Scotty Pods, Mackowiak, Gload and Iguchi all had a tremendous hand in the game today. Doing the Little Things!! :D:

Great game White Sox, it's nice to be back in the Win Column!!

There are all manner of possible explanations for this.

One is that OG knows that JG is a player who will NOT take it to heart (in a bad way), and that to chew him out so publically could very well light a fire under everyone else on the team's arse.

Unless one has an intimate knowledge of the personalities/psychological make-up of all involved, it is impossible to second-guess it.

Sure, from a distance, it looks bad, but it might be exactly the right thing for this manager to do to this team.

Sure, sports journalists will write specualtive pieces about it, and if JG's pitching were suddenly to collapse, then they'd all be calling out OG for his 'bush league' managing style.

What one must always remember about speculative columns in the press is this:
most of these pieces get written for one reason, and one reason only - because the journos need to fill their column inches.

Big John, Big John
Big Bad John, Big John

Nobody seemed to know where John called home
He just drifted into town and stayed all alone.
He didn't say much, kind of quiet and shy
And if you spoke at all, you'd just said hi to Big John.

great to see a 'W' go up again.

Even though JG didn't hit him, do you think Kinsler was doing a little pants p***ing with the ball coming at the back of his legs like that? I KNOW JG was trying to hit him, but it was funny watching the pitches go in, and go right behind his calves, and AJ catching them, almost like it was planned. You hate to see a warning go out, especially when you never actually hit anyone, but I was still laughing, so sue me.

One is that OG knows that JG is a player who will NOT take it to heart (in a bad way), and that to chew him out so publically could very well light a fire under everyone else on the team's arse.

IMHO, it shows your hitters that you are standing up for them, as well. The team may feel bad for JG getting reamed, and as you said Oz knows JG will be fine with the reaming, but the team also, at least subconsciously, knows that their manager will not tolerate shots on the hitters.

A big ole :dancers: for the execution of the sac. bunts, fc's, and little things that got things going. That's how you do it, guys, good job!

And this :sunshine: for all the DC's, you can climb out of the bomb shelter, at least for the day.

Oh quite definitely. But can you imagine the thoughts racing through his head?

Kinsler approaches the plate, total sacrificial lamb, going to stand in there, take it like a man.
"Crap, this is going to hurt, mental note to smash Padilla in the head with the fungo bat after the game........maybe Joey Cora could do it for me."
"What the h***? Oh my God, did you see how close that ball was to me? What is Garland trying to do?"
"Okay, he is going to hit me this time, now Garland's really mad. Cinch it up, Kin, come on boy, take one for the team. You can do it. Good thing I have been doing my Basedow work outs, this is going to burn."
"Wow, those workouts have really been helping, I barely felt that, it was almost like a strong wind on my calves. MAN am I tough!"
"Huh? I have to stay in the box, he missed? Dammit."

Who ever thought Jon Garland would be our stopper. The guy has been phenominal in 7 straight starts I do believe. To continue the calling people out trend that has been going on in this thread, where is every clown that has been bashing garland the last 2 weeks and putting his name with struggling Garcia and Buehrle.

Great game, doing everything right. Very good to see Garcia look good yesterday and Garland continuing to roll. Now can Javy follow the leader?

No, I'm miffed that Garland dissed Cintron in front of his teammates by not having his back and dinging Kinsler. Jon's a little too much about Jon and not enough about the team, IMO. I thought Ozzie was right on about that.

It was about Garland missing twice. He should have HIT Kinsler, not fanned his legs with a breeze. And the misses got the warnings issued, so the retaliation -- AGAIN -- didn't get done. Ozzie is hot about it.

I really like to see that. He's fighting to stay on this team and contribute and played well today. Great pitching by Jon and Thornton again continues to impress. His presence on the mound is COMPLETELY different than when he first got here. Improvement, location, confidence and talent. KW you got a winner in exchange for LTP. At least someone should post a poll asking whether it's better to trade Garland and Contreras while their value is high or dump Buehrle, Garcia and Vazquez just to rid the team of them although they won't bring more than a Widger clone in return.

The third choice -- both of the above -- would round out the competitive choices.

I am happy for Gload; it's been questioned as to why he's on the roster. He's a team player a hustle guy, and versatile. All teams need a player like this.

Keep these bunting clinics open; they've worked in goad's case and it goes to show how difficult it is for a team to be beaten when it combines great pitching with the execution of the fundamentals.

Small ball, the execution of fundamentals might be boring to some baseball fans much as the neutral zone trap is for hockey fans.

In the end wins count; wins count!
