Rumor is they got him because they are planning a Linebrink for a third baseman somewhere.

Just saw this as well, but you beat me to it. We all knew Williamson was going to go but im surprised it was San Diego. But I guess it may be true that they are going to use Linebrink to get a 3rd Baseman.

LOL. Zambrano would look great in a Sox uniform, actually, although I know it'll never happen.

Now thats a myopic statement. Who would want a guy who throws a heavy fastball upper 90s, who pitches all the time, and is a horse. I forget, we get our usual cubsessed sox fan that thinks that if it played for the cubs, then its icky poo. He plays for an icky poo team, but the pitcher is rather talented.

We used to think that way about Pierzynski.

Josh Fields didn't play for Charlotte tonite, anyone think there is anything behind the scenes for Linebrink. Knights box score: http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=g_box&gid=2006_07_22_swbaaa_chraaa_1&did=t494&sid=t494

I doubt it. Linebrink is a mediocre reliever, and as a flyball pitcher would be terrible at USCF. I think KW would be very reluctant to give up Fields unless he gets something big in return.

As for Zambrano, who wouldn't want him? He's 10-3 on the Cubs.

'06'= 10-3 3.11 era 141 k's
Career= 58-38 3.23 era.
Ya who in their right mind would want that. You don't like the Cubs fine, but don't be ignorant to reality.

If Zambrano was on the Sox, we'd probably be at least tied with the Tigers. Can't question the man's talent, he's no Prior and Wood.

A good friend of mine, who's originally from Oklahoma (like Fields) and still has contacts there, said the Sox have shipped an outfielder's glove to Fields in anticipation of an imminent callup. There's also this article:

This is rather larger news if its true.

I don't think it's really major news. We've heard the talk about the Sox moving Fields to the OF. I think it's safe to say that Fields will be called up at some point after rosters expand on Sept. 1. They probably just want him to start getting some experience in the OF at AAA. They're not going to break him into the OF at this level.

He picks up playing outfield and he becomes an even more talented prospect/future MLB starter. He makes himself more versatile for us if/when we call him up this year.

As for Zambrano, I think more people are ticked with his attitude. Personally, the way he's pitching right now and the struggles we have had, I wouldn't mind him. I think he's better suited with a manager with a style like Ozzie's.

I could do without all his stupid pointing to the sky gestures
after he strikes out a batter.Never mind that you're trailing 7-3

What the **** are you talking about?
The last 3 seasons (2004-2006) he's had a WHIP 1.06 or less, K/9 above 8, and respective ERAs of 2.14, 1.83, and 2.70. I'd gladly take that over Tracey.

Ok, he isn't mediocre. But he's a flyball pitcher in the NL, I don't think he'd be very successful pitching at USCF.

I believe KW stated that Fields was off limits for trades.

Zambrano has won 10 games for a team that has won 37 games all season (27% of the Cubs wins so far). Are there any other MLB starters out there who account for almostr 1/3 of their team's total victoried? If you don't want to see him in a Sox uni, you're on Crack. Anyway, Zambrano is not going to get traded. I figure he, D. Lee and Barrett are three guys Hendry will hold onto as he starts the reconstruction project.

I hope to God KW does not deal for any more NL pitchers. They are soft because they are facing NL batters and not the Best of the Best-AL batters.

If he is always trailing 7-3, how come he has 10-3 record and 3.11 ERA?

He's kind of a late-bloomer; he sort of languished with HOuston for a few years and then on the other side of 26, got good with the Padres. He's pitched well, but, boy, those NL pitchers don't seem to fare all that well with us.

Hey, I'm no cub fan by any means, but there were always players like Reuschel, Jenkins, Maddux, and now Zambrano that could play for the Sox in my book.

Ex-cub factors not withstanding, I always hope we kick his brains in when we face him, but he's got the best stuff of any starting pitcher in this city.
