Does anyone see us winning 7,8,9, 10 in a row or 14 of 16?
Weve had a few hot streaks 7 or 8 wins in a row
but will we do it again?

I definitely see us (the Sox) getting really hot some time in August ripping off 14 out of 16 or 17 and just taking over the Central Division.

I think it's going to be stuff taken right out of the page of the Southside Hitmen Book (not Dan Helpinstine's book, but the M.O. of the '77 Sox)

I think no lead will be safe for any team that plays us in August, and the Sox will have their best month of the season. Book it.

I think the Sox are going to finish July a bit better and light up in August. Book it, baby.

p.s. As far as streaks..7, maybe 8....

The schedule is tough in August and tougher in September due to only 11 home games. Anything is possible but consider this:

1. The starting pitchers as a group all have to pitch better.
2. The tendency this year has been to 'play down' to bad opponents resulting in give away losses.
3. The team has gone backwards in fundamentals resulting in close losses at times.

Very, very hard to win eight, ten, twelve in a row when you have to overcome those.

Any team can get hot but I think this team has more than enough tools to go on a tear. Look at the damn Twins, a month ago I remember most of the people (myself included) on here pronounced them dead.

Don't call me a dark cloud, but no.

Having consistency for that many games in a row with this staff and this lineup ... probably not going to happen. Inconsistency comes from the lack of fundamental baseball (i.e. the inability to move runners over, get bunts down, avoid the big inning, etc.).

7 of 10 or 12 of 16 ... yes.

I agree with Lip. It can be done, but unless our starting pitching gets their heads out of their behinds...

The thing is, when the Sox are struggling (like now), it's hard to imagine they can ever put together a hot streak. But at other times, this team has been hot and during those times, it's been hard to imagine that they would struggle again.

I think they'll get hot again. But it's not a guarantee - their starting pitching has to improve. If that happens, the offense will get it done.

The funny thing is that his REAL name is B-M-a-c Daddy (without the dashes). Click on his name and check it out. Very interesting that the language filter even changes his name.

Ozzie is due for a 2nd half team asschewing. Maybe a 6 game homestand starting with the Rangers and some sleep in their own beds will "right" the ship.

IMHO, get this mini slump crap out of the way now, and be warming up at the end of the month.

I can see them winning 10 of 12 but it will be tough. I feel like playing the tigers is exactly what playing us last year must have felt like. We didn't have the big names and we still found a way to win every day. It is very frustrating to play a team like the Tigers. Also I feel like Ozzieball is starting to resemble Jerryball. We can't bunt anymore, can't pick up a sac fly, and we are constantly waiting around for the 3 run homer. I hope the starters can get their act together soon because if we do anything this year it will be because of them. Jose looked good today, and Garland looked good in game 1, so hopefully that's a sign of things to come.

It's ironic that you mention the '77 Southside Hitmen. They - like Detroit - had a 5.5 game lead in late July only to lose the division to Kansas City BY 15 GAMES! Plenty of baseball yet to be played folks.

We will get hot. We will win the division. We will win the World Series again.

How else is MLB going to get another $300 from me in merchandise this off season?

I know this will not be a popular answer, and this is not meant as a dark cloud one, but no. We may win 13 out of 18 or something pretty good like that, but not that many in a row, because of (pains me to say it) Ozzie.

Ozzie has fallen in love with using the wrong players in the wrong spots. Those lineups consistently cost us games. Bad Defense (mack ozuna) poor use of the bullpen, and not willing to pull a starter out before he gets rocked are killing us, and those are ALL on Ozzie, and until he gets it straight, we wont get straight.

Madetoorta:

After the Sox won the first game of a DH vs. K.C. on July 31, 1977 the lead was 6 1/2 games. The Royals then won the second game.

K.C. then swept the Sox in Royals Stadium the following weekend. They won 16 straight and 31 of 37 to close the season out. You're not going to win anything when a team is that hot.

Oh wait, you're asking when the team will start playing better! My bad.

WOW. Honestly, I had forgotten that. (Or blocked it out of my memory.)

Oh, and the 'will the Sox get hot' question -- yes. Streaking through August, is my prediction.

This recent 3 game set in Detroit is just the wake up call the Sox needed. Zumaya celebrating in Crede's face will be the turning point of the season, not the hard slide.

The Sox will get back to the basics, play grinder ball, and get the job done. The pitching is already turning around. Save Vasquez's big inning, the startes have been good. Buerhle will come out of his slump tonight, and we shall regain the dominance in the AMerican League. I'm getting pretty jacked up for tonight.
LETS GO YOU SOX.

It's amazing. Absolutely amazing. The Sox have a bad streak against the BOSTON ****ING RED SOX, THE NEW YORK ****ING YANKEES AND THE DETROIT TIGERS, and people don't think this team can get hot and win a bunch of games again.

Jurr:

They can win a bunch of games... in fact they are going to win over 90.... can they win say nine in a row?

As I posted earlier anything's possible but unless they can cure some inconsistencies that have been going on since the start of the season, it will be difficult at this point in the season.

Couldn't agree with you more about this team playing JerryBall. I can't stand JerryBall and am disgusted whenever we play this awful brand of baseball. We miss Big Frank and Carl's leadership, Damaso and Luis's gas, Aaron's sweet facial hair, and the magic of El Duque. As much as I hate to say it, the ship is sinking.

Smile all you want, but we just dropped another turd tonight. I personally think that the Sox will snap out of this, but they're digging themselves a big ****ing hole right now, and it really seems like they've gotten complacent.

Do a little research into the language of this site, why don'tcha? That is not a smile; it's a rolling eyes smilie. Basically, it signifies a sort of contemptuous, somewhat humorous awe at posters--usually newbies, but not always--who overreact and panic at every little thing.

IMO, the rolling eyes smilie I posted there was spot-on. And the only reason you are not also getting one is because you are not painting tonight's game as "the end of the world as we know it."

Yeah we did get hot once and won 9 in a row. Unfortunately Detroit didn't cool down at that time. Sox only gained a game in that 9 game winning streak.

I don't see us pulling a 9 of 10 or anything like that. The pitching is just not there. While over the course of their careers our starting 5 has put together the best body of work of any rotation in the division, right now the starters are the third best rotation in the division, and have been that way for most of the season (since the Twins put Liriano in the rotation I would say is when we went from 2nd to 3rd best). We will win games, a good amount of them because our starters still have a lot of talent and we have a hell of an offense. But I see it coming in groups of 6-4 and 8-5, rather than peeling off a bunch of wins in a row.
