I think it depends when we're both contending. I'd say because of history with the Indians and Twins they are our rivals. Over time I don't think it'll matter as long as the division stays together long enough, we'll grow to have rivarlies with every team in the Central. Just look at the Bears, they've played so long with the Lions, Packers, and Vikings, every single one of those teams could be considered rivals.

It's usually whichever team is closest in the standings. The Sox have had hated rivalries with the Yankees, the Royals, the A's, the Indians, the Twinkies, and now the Tigers, although there's not a lot of angry hate for the Tigers at the moment.

There was some intensity between the Sox and Tigers in 2000 after the brawl, but it cooled off after Detroit collapsed into the basement with 119 losses.

Right now I'd say the Sox's most established rival in the AL Central are the Twins. Those teams haven't liked each other for a long time and always play pretty intensely against each other.

IMO, we don't play the Yankees, Cubs, etc enough to really consider them big rivals.

We seem to be beating ourselves lately, so can we be our own rivals?? :o:

Yep, I think it is still the Twins. I hate the Twins. I actually respect and kinda like this 2006 Tigers team. Now that doesn't mean that I want them to win, but they don't rub me the wrong way like the Twins do.

I would have to agree with you there. I don't too much care for the Tigers, but I still at least respect them though. As for the Twins? If they had a year in which they lost 110 games, I'd ask "Why couldn't they lose 120?" Really. I ****ing HATE the Twins!   When the Twins were in the playoffs against the Yankees, I was rooting for the Yankees. Literally.

I'd say that I mostly feel the same way. I used to really hate those Twins teams of 2001-2004. I don't really hate the Tigers, although I hate losing to them.

Anyone who stands in the way of this team is a rival.

We currently have 29 rivals, as far as I am concerned.

The Twins. I've always HATED the Twins.....until this year. It would have been so easy for them to pack it in this year. What amazing determination to fight back like they have when it seemed like they were buried behind TWO teams in their division. They could have packed it in like the Cubs, but took it to an insane level instead. If it's between them and the Tigers this year, I'm pulling for the Twins. I can't believe I just said that! But they fight every year with no payroll and give everyone fits.

Cleveland. I've always hated them. I have begrudging respect for Minnesota.

Probably Cleveland, but I just loathe Minnesota. I was rooting for contraction back in the day.

I agree with you, but I think the rivalry was much more heated when guys like Kielty, Pierzynski, and Jacquez were still on the team. Now, the more annoying guys are pretty scrubby (Punto, Bartlett, Silva, Radke), and the good ones are either injured or guys I respect (Toriiiiii, Shannon, Nathan, Mauer, Morneau (meh actually)).

Why is there so much hatred towards the Twins?

Why is there so much hatred towards the Twins?

A string of years of losing in the last few weeks of the year will do that. So will Jacque Jones. I hate that guy.

I think a lot of people are getting over it though.
