Anderson with his single in the 7th gets his batting average up to the dizzying heights of .202. He has been swinging the bat a lot better the past month, and I think Brian is capable of getting his average up to around .230. Way to go BA.

Everybody just needs to leave him be, a couple of laps around the league to get his feet wet, and he'll be good for a long time... Way to Go Brian! Next stop .210!

He's already dug himself out of a huge hole...he needs a three-hit game once in a while.

Kudos to BA...I really hope we give him a shot against Bonderman tomorrow. I know that's a tough, tough pitcher, but its time to give him another shot...he looked good against Shilling, Mussina...why not this kid?

We got back to playing good defense tonight and I'd start the same 9.

I'll take him batting .250 the rest of the way.

First comes the "I hate BA" threads. Then comes the "let's give him a nickname" thread.

Then comes the downpour of praise. We've seen it all before. And before. And before.

Thirteen more points and he'll be hitting his weight. Maybe he'll be hitting Thome's weight by september first.

The Atlanta Braves announcers lowered the Mendoza line to .200 because they couldn't remember .215

Brian had two good at bats, but looked real bad on the Ks. A big improvement from earlier in the year, but not as strong as some of his recent games.

I'm rooting for him.

Don't look now, but Brian Anderson is hitting a cool .345 in the month of July, according to Chris Rongey on the Score's Postgame Show tonight.

He's very talented, but still looks clueless at the plate....

Your post is the clueless one (which isn't surprising given your posting history). BA is hitting .250 since June 1. Give me a rookie, above-average CF, hitting .250 in the 9th spot any day of the week. Factor in that he is hitting .345 since July 1 and I like it even more.

Your anti-BA bias is blatantly obvious. You just cannot handle that 2 months ago you claimed BA would not be starting for the Sox in CF this fall. You're about to be proved wrong and cannot own up to it.

You think with a name like StatHead, he'd know those stats.

He can look clueless all he wants as long as he can get the job done.

To be fair, he did look confused in the game yesterday--he was totally fooled a few times. I'm a big BA fan, but I felt like it was a step back for him.

He looks clueless?
I would take an opposite view. He seems to be more confident, his strikeouts are down, and he's making solid contact. Very happy to see BA having productive at bats.
He smoked that one ball to Inge last night.

No kidding...

I couldn't believe how close Brian actually got to that missile ground-rule double off the bat of Inge (IIRC) last night. That was a TON of ground to cover to even be in the same zip code...

Hey! You're finally coming around on Anderson! :welcome: aboard!

:tongue:I'm not willing to build a shrine in Cooperstown just yet, but anyone with eyes can see he's not getting completely fooled like he was the first two months and that he's taking more consistent swings. Whether he can continue that remains to be seen. In years past we saw Joe Crede hit .350 for a month at a time, only to hit .130 the next month.

I don't know if BA can continue it into next month or even next week, for that matter, but let's not worry about that yet. Just do it again today.

IIRC, he hit a line shot that was caught at 3rd and had a single. He also struck out a couple of times, but even the best of hitters (not saying BA is one of them) are made to look bad. He still put a couple of very good swings on the ball. He;s far from being a clueless hitter, as he looked earlier this season.

Hitting .333 over a few days doesn't really impress, even the likes of Mike Caruso and Lyle Mouton have done that.

A little BA note that I found from ESPN.com's insider scouting report, BA hasn't hit a curveball all season! That does not bode well for his future.

Yes BA has hit better, he's up to .200, but....

A. hitting .200 isn't good
B. its not hard to hit better than he was
C. he was expected to hit about .260 before the season, if he gets his average up to .260 I'll shut my mouth but until then I'll stick with my thought that he should be in the minors right now and the Sox should upgrade.

Also of note is that those 2 strikeouts raised his July total from 3 to a whopping 5. This continues a positive trend:

BA's At-Bats per Strikeout
Apr - 2.8
May - 3.4
June - 5.1
July - 6.6

The stats on top are none other than Brian Anderson's. The lower line of stats are the scrub's Ronny Cedeno's. One side of town sees a rookie success story, the other side want to run the guy out of town. Cedeno also has had a hundred more plate appearances, so the power numbers favor Anderson. Both guys are solid defenders. Let's not get hung up on one stat (batting average), and look at the kid's entire body of work.

I blame BA for today's loss. 3 for 4 is not good enough. His failure to drive the ball into the seats in his last at bat was the reason we lost!

Is it just a coincidence that now BA is now red hot and the rest of the team isn't? Or is it just really unfortunate timing?

C'mon Brian...put this team on your back and really prove the naysayers wrong!

Don't forget to add that... it doesn't matter. His OBP is higher, meaning he's actually getting on-base via the walk more then Ronny could imagine.
