View Full Version : Richard Roeper Interview

He’s a nationally known White Sox fan and a Chicago guy to boot.

He’s Sun-Times columnist and movie critic Richard Roeper and he’s the latest interview at White Sox Interactive. www.whitesoxinteractive.com (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com)

You can find the interview on the main page, just scroll down to his photo and click on the link.

Richard talks about a number of issues including some of the Hollywood variety.

For example are there any real baseball fans among the Hollywood crowd? And my favorite, if Hollywood were to make a movie on the 2005 White Sox, who plays the roles of Ozzie Guillen, Jerry Reinsdorf and Kenny Williams?

Roeper talks about his new book ‘Sox In The City’ detailing 40 years as a Sox fan and also looks at the issue of ‘media bias’ in the Chicago-market.

To copy (OK to steal) from the syndicated show of ‘Ebert & Roeper’, it’s a ‘two thumbs up!’ interview.

I hope you’ll enjoy it.

I thought his book was called 'Sox and the City'.

Yes, it is. I just finished reading it last week.

At the time of the interview there was no official title. I corrected the notation.

Thanks!

You said he reads WSI, does he ever post? You should've told him to join us in Chat one day. That would be crazy.

Just let me know in advance and I'll be sure not to log in. He does have a high opinion of this site after all.

I know Richard is a frequent visitor. I don't know if he is a registered member. If he reads this thread (and he probably will) I'd encourage him to join Brandon McCarthy, Les Grobstein, Phil Rogers and some other notables who join us in our passion. (or one of them...)

Ok, I know the other two's screen names but what is Brandon McCarthy's?

I think it was BMac3520 or something like that. #35 for Frank Thomas, #20 because I think that was his number in high school or something like that.

Lip

That makes me wonder, if he were to sign in, would his screename automatically turn to "fingernails on a blackboard?"

We have a member [stop that snickering at the back] with the nom de plume Mr.Skin.

Named, presumably, after the website that tells you exactly who disrobes, how much they show, and at what time they do it in movies.

Don't know the member personally, but methinks his screen name is a reference to a song by the band SPIRIT ("I Got A Line On You", "Nature's Way", etc.).

No, it's a reference to his pseudonym, Mr. Skin, who has appeared on numerous radio shows and who runs mrskin.com a source of information and clips about what actresses appear nude in movies, how far into them, and iirc also clips of said scenes (for a subscription fee).

And no, I'm not a user of the site.

OIC. Although I guessed wrong, that's still a cool song by Spirit. :D:

Actually I've never been there. I've heard him on Dahl's show (years ago). I also saw him with Harry Teinowitz at SoxFest in 2005. I could tell it was him because he was wearing a Sox Jersey with "Mr. Skin" embroidered on the back.

I enjoyed that Lip, thanks. I have always enjoyed Roeper's thoughts on the Sox. He has done a nice job of staying calm when doing interviews and representing the southside in an extremely well spoken and thought out manner. Thanks, Roep.

Anyone know where he went to high school?

Dolton's Thornridge.

FYI Thornridge is in the same district as Thornton & Thornwood. Because of financial troubles the three schools only have one team in several sports.

Is, by any chance, that team's nickname the 'Thornbirds'?

Can't remember exactly which, but I think it was Thornridge where I went from Evanston for a couple speech tournaments in high school. Evanston to Thornridge, now that was a ride. Very competitive tournies, south 'burbs have some serious teams.

Lip, thanks for the great article! And getting to chat with Roland Hemmond for a night, that must've been great.
