View Full Version : question about Widger's near-achievement

Widger had three at-bats last night, and recorded the final out of the inning each time. A rally-killing trifecta. Had AJ not pinch hit for him, Widge had the potential to record the final out of the inning four times in a row. (Technically, the Catcher position DID record the final out of an inning four times in a row.)

Would this have been a rare accomplishment? Does it happen often? You start noticing these odd little details when you keep score of games!

Write Jayson Stark about it. He syudies all those weird stats and is pretty good at it too, although some of the answers come from fans who have no lives.

That's pretty normal for Widger.

It seems like everytime Widger goes out the Sox lose. I'm not very good at calculating stats, but does anyone know the Pitchers E.R.A. when Widger is calling the pitches as opposed to A.J.? Also what is the Soxs' winning Percentage when he's in?

I finally made my first post, been reading the boards for a long time. :supernana:

Widger (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3274&context=fielding)

AJ (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=3948&context=fielding)

Over a run difference.

I really want us to get Henry Blanco from the Cubs.

His cERA is high this year, but that's beacuse the Cubs suck. He's good with a pitching staff. He's bad at hitting, but Widger is too.

I really like Widger, and he's good in the clubhouse. But he's just terrible at everything this year.

If we get Blanco Widger could be Man Soo's backup.

"Chris Widger... I just talked to Cliff Politte... I've got my eye on you!"

I made 2 outs in the same inning in high school once. That was kinda embarrassing. What made it worse was it was 10 degrees outside and some of the guys on the team were trying to get everyone to strike out on purpose so we could end the game quicker.

Fortunately, I didn't strike out. I hit a line drive to center on the first pitch of the at bat, then later a shot to the second baseman, also on the first pitch.
