Yes, this has been updated on 7/14/06 as new news. Maybe next time I'll just look at the bottom of page 1 or maybe page 2 and bump the last "Prior on the DL" thread :)

What I don't get is if the Cubs have all these awesome pitching prospects in AAA, why don't they just stick both of these bums on the shelf?? The season is over for them. Call up the AAA guys. Let them work some real MLB innings, actually give them more than 2 starts and see what they've got...

Trade Maddux and have a second-half rotation of:

Carlos Zambrano
Sean Marshall
Carlos Marmol
Angel Guzman
Rich Hill

What harm can be done to see what these guys have??

Wow, just think the Cubs could've had Miguel Tejada for this guy. Who backed out of that trade anyway?

The Orioles did. They wanted Zambrano instead.

I'd like to thank Mark Prior for demanding a huge contract which forced the Minnesota Twins to pass on him and take Joe Mauer instead.

I firmly believe that if Prior was taken by the Twins instead of the Cubs, he'd be at least a 3 or 4 time All-star and one half of the best 1-2 punch in baseball with Santana. Plus the Twins would've never gotten rid of AJ. :D:

I swear it has something to do with that uniform. A player can have amazing success somewhere else whether it's another MLB team or college but as soon as they put on that blue uni with a baby bear logo on it, they have all sorts of problems. Nomar and Corey Patterson seem to be the two most recent examples.

Hendry and McPhail don't want to anger the loyal, passionate fanbase that expects to win.

I'd like to see them throw Rich Hill - let him fail, let the Cubs throw him under the bus and then we can pick the failed prospect for Ross Gload, and hand Hill over to Coop for some rehabilitation.

I think Lee and Zambrano are the only two that aren't affected by it quite as much. Although they have both combined for some pretty freak injuries.

Zambrano hurt himself typing on a computer. He also ran into a fungo bat the other day.

Lee's wrist injury...

Unfreakingbelieveable.

Talk about a laughingstock...those guys must break out in hives every time they put those pinstripes on. Part of me would like to see another team pick these guys up, rehab them properly, train them correctly and kick ass on another team that shoves it to the Cubs.

You had better do more than thank him. BTW, some say it wasn't Prior's $$ demands that made the Twins go with Mauer, but rather their desire to get the next Johnny Bench.
The reason all Sox fans should be eternally grateful that the Twins took Mauer over Prior is the fact that Mauer made Pierzynski dispensable. If the Twins did not have Mauer, they would not have traded AJ away. No AJ on the Sox, no ring ceremony.

The whole Cubs organization has to be one big soap opera right about now. Nothing is going right for them. Their star players have been hurt and when they release crappy players, their careers are usually saved by another team (see Nomar and Patterson). This team is a joke.

Disabled List Offers Mark Prior Two-Year, $8 Million Extension

June 29, 2006 | Onion Sports (http://www.theonion.com/content/sports)

CHICAGO—Mark Prior, the right-handed pitcher who has spent the first few years of his career on the disabled list, is now considering accepting a recent two-year, $8 million offer from the DL that would keep him not playing through the 2008 season. "I couldn't even imagine the DL without Mark Prior—over the years, he has become the face, stiff right elbow, strained subscapularis muscle, and inflamed Achilles tendon of our organization," said Kirk Gibson, manager and longtime former member of the DL, which is currently rebuilding by claiming young arms such as Kerry Wood, Ben Sheets, and Mike Maroth. "We firmly believe that Mark's best injuries are still ahead of him." While Prior's agent says the pitcher is exploring his options, experts predict that it is "inevitable" that Prior will return to the DL and, with the loyalty he's shown in the past, likely finish his career there

But then the Twins likely wouldn't have Nathan and Liriano. It's a whole circle of life kind of thing. :D:

True. However, Nathan and Liriano did not keep us out of the World Series last year. Bottom line: If AJ was not traded by the Twins, he would not have been with us last year and Ben Davis or Jaime Burke would have been behind the plate getting the signals from the dugout for each pitch.

That would have made for a very quiet October, 2005 in Chicago.

Tell that Triple-A [bleep] to shut the [bleep] up. Tell him to start throwing some strikes or he's going to get Dusty fired

somehow I doubt Ozzie ever handing the ball over to that piece of ****...Rich Hill has no balls
