I just noticed they also claimed Aaron Guiel off waivers from the Royals (http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20060705&content_id=1540735&vkey=pr_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy). How bad is your team when you need Royals castoffs to improve it?:o:

"CASSHHHMAANNNNN! Dammit, where the hell is he?"

"THERE YOU ARE, CASHMAN! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING UNDER THAT DESK?!"

"AIIEEEE! I, uh, I was just checking under here in case any employees were sneaking naps on company time. Remember that assistant to the travelling secretary?"

http://www.fifteenkey.com/images/steinbrenner.jpg
"Cashman, what are you doing to improve our rotation? Look at these stats. Look at this Cuban stud they have in Chicago, Jose Contreras. How the hell did Reinsdorf land an arm like that and you get me Ponson? Ponson, Ponson? How good is Ponson? Why couldn't you swing a trade for a stud like Contreras? Answer me Cashman! Why can't we ever have players like Contreras?!"

:roflmao: Haha that's hilarious!! If the Yankees actually think that Sir Sidney Ponson can actually save their season, they got another thing coming.

Javy Vazquez suddenly doesn't look so bad.

I would laugh more, but I still have fond memories of having Aaron Small on one of my fantasy teams last year. The Yanks have some funky voodoo from time to time with otherwise awful pitchers.

That said, let us at him. We'll make his time in New York brief.

funny when he was released over the weekend the Red Sox radio announcers expected he would sign with the Yankees.

If the White Sox repeat what they did last year at the Stadium you can expect Steinbrenner to go into panic mode.

If Ponson's E.R.A. was 5.50 in the NL, imagine what it is going to soar to when he has to face the tough AL offenses in his own division like Toronto or Boston's. I predict Ponson will be put on waivers in a couple months and some stupid team will claim him because everyone is desperate for pitching.

Actually, we'll know that the "evil empire" is no more when the Yankees announce they're so desperate for pitching that they're taking a chance on Kerry Wood.

How long did they think that they were just going to get whoever they wanted? They are a joke and they are currently on the decline, it's about time they pay for it.

One can only hope that we get to see Ponson on Sunday.

Actually, we'll know that the "evil empire" is no more when the Yankees announce they're so desperate for pitching that they're taking a chance on Kerry Wood.

Maybe next year, he's probably out for the year again. But it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he went somewhere with a real coaching/training staff and succeeded. The Cubs are joke.

The Yankees have a long tradition to treating Kansas City like a farm club. I don't know about Guiel and if he'll have any success in New York, but perhaps the biggest pick up the Yankees made from the old KC A's was a disappointing power hitter who hit just 16 homes in 1959. He improved to 39 in 1960. And Roger Maris hit even more in 1961.

You would expect him to be at the back of the rotation coming out of All-Star break.

You'd expect him to be at the back of the unemployment line.

By the end of the month, he'll be gone and some other team will take a chance on him. Why? Because there's only one or two teams with five good starters.

Odd how WSI posters rip Guiel the day he was a big reason Contreras lost his first game of the year.
