If you were listening to the radio broadcast of Sunday's marathon game, you might have heard Ed Farmer seem to let us in on some privileged information he had regarding Curt Schilling's career with the Red Sox. He insisted to Chris that Schilling had told him that he was hanging it up after this season.

The back and forth by Farmer and Singleton on this topic prompted a thread ("Schilling to retire after 06?") on the Sons of Sam (Red Sox) message board with much gnashing of teeth and rending of clothing. Finally, Schilling, who contributes there occasionally as Gehrig38, posted to say that he had no idea why Farmer said what he did, and that he has a contract with the Red Sox for next season which he expects to honor.

Schilling has said repeatedly that he is going to retire after NEXT year when his contract expires. Methinks Farmer got confused.

I would have preferred it if Schilling had said he does not even talk to Farmer. I have a feeling many of Farmer's "friends" would be suprised to find out how close they are to this pud.
