What is your favorite moment of the first half of the 2006 season?

Boy, there have been a ton of good ones to choose from. I'll go with A.J.'s 3 run bomb in the 9th against the Cubs though.

A.J.'s homer against the Cubbies was the first to come to mind. Man, I'm having trouble remembering them all because there have been so many! I think the 1-0 win over the Cards was our best overall game.

I've got four...

1) Jim Thome's opening day HR.

2) A.J.'s three-run bomb against the Cubs.

3) Iguchi's slam against the Cubs.

4) Joe Crede's slam against the Astros.

(1) Ring Day. Not the Game. but the Ceremony. I made a pos recording on my digital camera from the upper deck, and the roars for Aaron are so loud. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to our friend. El Duque the same thing. I know there is still those who wish aaron was still here, but it was the right move with the Thominator. But getting the rings, and getting to thank the guys from last year was great. The ideal and perfect way to say goodbye to 2005

(2) AJ's homerun vs. The Cubs. I was there, and because I was in my bosses Season tickets, I was surrounded by Cubs fans. They were mostly good except a few hecklers, but AJ let the southside have the last laugh.

(3) Cintron's Homer to win the game vs Detroit. I had my first ever Business Dinner that night, and got back in the car sick as a dog. When we left the webber grill, we were down. I turned on the radio (gf drove my car home) and I finished "being sick" out the window just before, started hooting n hollerin and yacked again lol

(4) AJ-Barrett Brawl, and Iguchi throwing the knockout blow. Nuff Said.

I can't be asked to pick one moment in a season already filled with favorites, and we've only reached the Break! Here are my favorites:

The pomp & circumstance that was Opening Night; a tear-jerker and as unforgettable of a night as 10.26.05.
The Ring Ceremony itself was a thing of beauty, as well; so dramatic, but heartfelt and genuine at the same time!
The 1:10a final out on Opening Night. I and some other die hards from this board stuck it out all 6 hours!
The Pierzynski/Barrett brawl on May 20, and the homerun Iguchi hit shortly after that craziness!
The COTC II game/Frank's Return on May 22. The standing ovation for a visiting team's player was eerie, but deserved at the same time.
The Grand Slam weekend against the Astros- Podsednik, Crede, and Iguchi have a field day off the Houston bullpen!
My roadtrip to Pittsburgh- 'nuff said!
A.J.'s homerun against the Cubs on July 1. Pure poetic justice!
"Punch A.J.!" The Sox Army came through again!

Pablo's first career HR to tie it with 2 outs in the 9th against the Mariners
Thome's first HR with the Sox on Opening Day
Thome's slam against Baltimore*
Cintron's go-ahead HR in the 8th against the Tigers
Cintron's walk-off single against the Astros*
Podsednik's slam against the Astros*
Crede's slam against the Astros*
Iguchi's slam against the Astros*
Iguchi's slam against the Cubs*
Iguchi's walk-off single against Cleveland in extras*
Iguchi's walk-off single against Boston in the 19th*
Iguchi's amazing play against Toronto*
Dye's game-tying HR with 2 out in the 9th off Papelbon*
AJ's blast against the Cubs
Mackowiak's blast against the A'sI know I'm forgetting some. This first half has been great. If I had to pick one, I would go with Crede's slam on the first pitch off of Chad Qualls, mainly because I called it.

Maybe because I was there but Thomas' first game back with the A's is my favorite. Mackowiak hits the pinch hit home run to tie the game, and then Cintron bunts and out runs the throw to first to win the game.

That had to be one of my favorite moments!

Gooch's completely horizontal diving throw to first.

I'm glad someone mentioned this. That was honestly one of the most incredible and unexpected things I have ever seen. To this day, it still boggles my mind how he even had the presence of mind to throw that ball to first considering the position he was in, let alone the body control required to actually make a fairly accurate throw.

Before that, the best play I ever saw was Ray Durham's back-to-the-infield lay-out dive to end the 1st inning of the 2000 Home Opener against the Angels, but Iguchi's will go down as one of the best plays I have ever seen in my entire life.

Just five off the top of my head:

1. Banner Night: So I lied and told my friend whom I was with that my eyes were tired and sometimes, they tear up. I wasn't so moved by the whole damn thing and the concept of the Sox being World Champs that I was crying a little bit. Of course not.

2. AJ's homer: Even if it came against Toronto or Seattle, it would have been awesome. The fact that it was against the Cubs, though, made it even sweeter. I scared the hell out of the dog by screaming, but she remembers all the yelling from October, so she's used to it.

3. AJ Runs Over Barrett: Clean play, clean play, clean play. If you want to block the plate, your ass can/will get run over, even if you don't have the ball, b$&@#.

4. Iguchi's Upside-Down Throw: If that were Jeter or someone else on the Yankees or Boston, there would be a shrine already in place in Cooperstown, there would be a movie made and they'd have an ESPY permanently named for them.

But because Iguchi plays for the Right Sox, no one who isn't one of our kind cares.

5. Just a general tip of the Sox cap to Crede. Because we watch him every game, we know that he's one of the best third baseman around. You can have A-Rod, Chavez, Rolen, whomever you'd like.

When it comes to fielding his position, hitting and just being damn clutch, I'll take No. 24.

I think it could be Dye's game-tying HR yesterday. It was against a quality opponent (Boston and Papelbon) and hopefully kicked off some mojo in the upcoming series against New York and Detroit. You don't want to go into the break on a losing streak and have four days to think about it.

AJ's jack, as sweet as it was, was hit against a AAA team.

I haven't seen this one mentioned: Sox vs. Twins. Buehrle vs. Santana. Both pitchers throwing up zeroes. Then, on a 3-1 count, Thome takes Santana deep to Centerfield. It gave the Sox a 2-0 lead. They would eventually light up the bullpen and win 7-1, but they proved they could beat Santana.

As much as I find myself complaining about little things here and there, now that I think about it, there have been some really great moments in this first half.

The ring ceremony was great. Just seeing all of the fans lined up outside before the gates opened was amazing. I had never seen that many people outside of a Sox game. And, to this day, I get goosebumps when I hear the ovation that Aaron Rowand got. I'm not admitting anything, but I may have cried a little bit that day. (Oh, and seeing the new montage, complete with WS highlights, for the first time.)

Obviously, the grand slams rank way up there.

AJ's bomb against the Cubs is up there.

Jon Garland's homerun, just because I laughed about it for a solid 45 minutes.

All of the clutch plays from the Sox bench thus far. Pablo, I love you.

Frank's return.

Iguchi's still impossible seeming play.

AJ winning the final vote spot. Sox fans have a voice.

AND...something that I wouldn't consider a favorite moment, but I felt I had to mention...those few games this year that the Sox lost, but fought tooth and nail to the end. More than once this year I, as well as many other people I know, have uttered the words "I know they lost, but that was one of the best baseball games I have ever seen." It's pretty nice when someone who is typically on the verge of getting an ulcer after a White Sox loss can say something like that.

4. Sox over Seattle 6-5. This game is called the Pablo Ozuna Game.

3. Sox over Cubs 8-0. AJ Barrett Fight/ Iguchi Slam

2. Sox over the Cardinals 20-6. 11 Run 3rd inning that destroyed the Cardinals for about a week. I still dont think they have recovered yet.

This team has had an incredible first half of comebacks and big hits.

When you read this thread one name keeps popping up- Iguchi- it is hard to say who has been more clutch on this team this season but when you consider the homers he has hit- the back to back grand slm/3 run hrs. against cleveland , grandslm against the cubs, yesterdays homer vs schilling and the game winner in the 19th. He has had as many big hits as anyone on this team and thats saying something with JD ,Jim,PK ,JOE ect.

AJ's homer stands out the most to me.

Thome's home run on opening day is classic. The photograph is even better. His A typical swing, the rain coming down, his teeth clenched. Whoever was the photographer on that shot totally nailed it. I would love to score a copy of it.

I can't believe how hard of a time I'm having with this question. Last year around this time I woulda said AJ's walkoff, hands down. Now I gotta choose between several grand slams, including one in the bottom of the 9th. Iguchi's throw while parallel to the ground. AJ's bomb vs Cubs. Thome's HR bomb vs Pitt. AJ making all star team.

That was a great time. Sox fans were loud and proud. Crede's grand slam in the first inning set the tone. We came from behind in the Sat game. Bobby made things interesting in the 9th. I wasn't there for the Sunday game but Garland's homerun was great! The Red's didn't know what hit 'em.

The 20-6 pounding of the NL Central's best team. I wish it would have ended 20-2, sounds better.

That had to be one of my favorite moments!
That's was such an awesome game. And voting strictly for games I was at, here goes:

1. Uribe's homer in the 8th at Wrigley vs. the Cubs. The Cub fans left in disgust and the massive amount of us Sox fans competely took over the urinal at that point. 2nd greatest Sox vs. Cubs moment ever for me. AJ's jack is the first.

2a. Mackowiak's homer vs. the A's 2b. Ozuna's squeeze bunt vs. the A's 2c. Thomas's two homers against the Sox.

3. Pods' salami vs. the Astros

4. Vazquez' two hitter vs. the Royals.

This had to be the most fun half-season ever to be a Sox fan. Hopefully the Sox will be more fun to watch in the second half & playoffs!

But just look at us holding on

The one that I belong to
You're the one I want for life

Don't know if it was my favorite, but it certainly was the most memorable... and by the look on these people's faces, I doubt if I am the only one.

Hahaha that picture is really funny, with the fans' reactions and all. My favorite reaction is the in the black shirt and the hat. She looks a bit shocked.

COTC against Oakland seeing Frank's homers and Pablo craziness to win it in the 9th.

Seeing Thome's one hit homer against the twins that Friday in April.

Only game I've been to so far, and I sure picked a good one! :D:

The pre-game festivities on Opening Day.

The Pods slam against the Astros. I was there with my mom and dad.

I was at that game when Tadahito hit that grandslam, and eventhough they lost, that game was amazing.

That game was amazing. I kept thinking I should just go to sleep, but kept watching instead. I remember thinking how crazy it would be to see him hit that granny. Wow. Too bad it didn't get us a win.

But I have to say, like many others, my favorite game in the first half was definately opening day. Something I won't forget (holy goosebumps!)

I have a lot of them but my favorites include:
The White Sox sweeping the Reds (I was there for all three games:cool: )
Jim Thome's Opening Night home run
Ozuna's game tying home run off of Eddie Guardado
White Sox destroying the Cards 20-6 and 13-5 on back to back nights

I keep coming back to this thread, because my #1 highlight of the year keeps changing. but I think I got it figured out now.

Opening night, taking a picture of the flag on the field during the national and the jets flying over, and no other photographer next to me getting that shot. The celebration, the sounds, Thunderstruck for the first time since we won it all, the crowd, the atmosphere, the rain, Thome's chin sticking out with the rain coming down as he belted his first HR as a Sox, and then leaving the place with a win with 40k other very lucky Sox fans to be at the first game when they raised the World Series flag. It was a night to remember, a night I will never forget, and a night I will always keep close to my heart. Then following it up with the next 2 games was incredible.

Then a close second, as stated before, is AJ continuing to piss off the world!

I've loved every moment so far. Even the one's we've been down, we're still defending world series champions. Its a great time to be a Sox fan.

In no particular order:

Thome's Hr in on opening day against Cleveland.

The Ring Ceremony when OUR WORLD CHAMPION CHICAGO WHITE SOX got their hardware and Rowand returned.

AJ's HR vs the Flubs at Wrigley.

AJ winning the all-star fan vote.

Its been mentioned several times in this thread, but this whole game had me at the edge of my seat. One of the most exciting games/ plays I've seen so far this season. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/scripts/mediaplayer/mp_tpl.jsp?w_id=496972&w=2006/open/tp/archive05/052206_oakcha_ozuna_squeeze_tp_350.wmv&pid=mlb_tp&gid=2006/05/22/oakmlb-chamlb-1&mid=200605231467451&cid=mlb&fid=mlb_tp350&v=2&mType=w&urlstr=&murl==
