Apparently, MLB was also looking at 16 additional teams who were candidates for contraction, including both Florida franchises.

Though the Sox could play the charter member of the AL angle up quite a bit if they were ever mentioned for contraction, I gotta figure they wouldn't make a 14-team cut. No way. Not that that article has any basis in reality anyway, but hypothetically speaking.

That is an interesting question. Oakland has a crap ballpark while the Sox have more Diamond Suites than they know what to do with. I'm sure this list of 18 teams was strictly for discussion purposes. Assuming the owners ever took a vote to actually contract any of those 18 teams, I'm sure the owner in question would vote against it (excluding of course, slime balls like Pohlad and Loria).
