The 4 Ks for 4 outs for Bobby might be tempting if not for the GULP three hits to start the ninth.

Too many LOB and missed opportunities made this much closer than it should have been.

Great game by Garland.

Nice job by Thornton & Jenks in the eighth.

In a way it was good to see Bobby have some adversity and work through it. He's been pretty lights most of the season. Good to know he can clean up his own mess and doesn't get down on himself.

Garland... keep it up buddy.

It's really hard for anybody to go 1-2-3 in the ninth every game. He couldn't get the breaking ball over for a strike, and that's when he's least effective.

Could anyone read the lips of Matt Thorton when Ozzie went out to pull him after 1 out?

Thorton was laughing but looked pissed and wanted to be left in. I'm glad Ozzie did the smart thing and brought in Jenks to face the rightie.

That's why he is Baaaaad Bobby Jenks! A tough 4 out save, stranding 4 batters. Well pitched game all the way around...it is scary how good the Sox could be if the starters are consistent in the 2nd half.

This is true. Although I would've preferred at least one out before the tying run was in scoring position...

but I guess I'm just not one for dangerous scenarios. :D:

Jon Garland finishes 8-3 at the All Star Break - 5 games over .500 (which equals the number of husbands claimed by Judy Garland). His numbers continue to improve after the first two starts of the season which has really skewed his numbers.

Jenks toys with Sox fans before striking out the side. I hope the Sox offense gets out of the habit of scoring early and sleeping through the remainder of the game - the only negative tonight. They had plenty of chances to extend the lead and hopefully they will stay focused throughout this long season.

YES!!!

Great game by Garland. Is it me or is Jenks on the top of his game only when it is a 1 or 2 run lead? He always gives up runs in 3 run save situations.

Just got home from the park. GREAT game, even with the drama at the finish.

Wondering if the O's are out to get Crede carrying over from the series at Camden last year.

Crowd was loud and boisterous, really got on Patterson after he K'ed. Upper deck was rocking every time AJ came up.

My cool story from tonight: I collect Rochester Red Wings (hometown minorleague team) memorabilia. One of the coolest pieces I have is a game worn Luis Matos jersey. Got to the park early and headed down by the O's dugout and hollered/showed it to him/made the "sign it?" motion, which got a nod and a thumbsup. He flagged me down as he came off the field to head over to the dugout, took it down to the bench and signed it (taking good care to sign it on a flat surface). Very cool all around...and then he proceeded to go 0 for 4.

I'm pretty sure I walked down the ramps right behind our very own Cheeses_h_rice, but couldn't tell for sure...and didn't want to make a jackass out of myself by tapping him if it wasn't him. Cheeses, were you wearing a 1959 hat tonight?

I had a bad feeling when Jenks came in in the 8th. Looks like I was right. I hadn't been that nervous at the game in a while.

Kudos to me for getting from my seat in Section 520 to the first car on the Red Line in 8 minutes. I made it from my set to my front door in 55 minutes, one of the fastest times ever.

Boo to the 35th-Sox station for having BOTH escalators going up after the game. ***?

I'm trying to remember how it all went down with the last game there last year.

They plunked Crede 2 days in a row.

Buehrle plunked Roberts or Gibbons as retribution and got tossed. Am I right?

Wilkes, that was me. I thought I saw you but I had to check on a friend who I took to the hospital tonight (missing the first 5 innings in the process), so I was skedaddling down the ramps.

I believe Buerhle plunked B.J. Surhoff, got ejected without warning breaking his streak of pitching into the 7th. Also Hawk went apoplectic in the booth.

We've got five starters with eight wins or more now. Garland is rolling. It's Vazquez's turn to step up. We SHOULD take three out of four from a team like this at home.

Sox vs. teams over .500: 22-6
Sox vs. teams .500 and below: 33-23

We need to start stepping on these bad teams.

I'm telling you, this team needs to be on the big stage. When they go to these bad teams' parks (Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay), they don't do so hot. You give them a good team, in front of 40,000 fans, and look out.

That last pitch by bobby was something else. Millar was a popsycle.

Jon looked confident out there again and joins Jose as the two starters we can count on this week, next week it might be Mark and Freddy. Hopefully javy will join the party soon.

As long as we always have 2-3 starters going good at all times we should be in good shape.

BA really made a tremedous recovery on that shot to center in the ninth. He was able to smother a ball at close quarters, hit juan on the fly, and if juan gets his throw up Brian would have initiated a put-out of a guy coming from second base on a ball that hit the wall in dead center! And it saved one run which could have changed the outcome if bobby didnt just strike everybody out. As they indicated during the game tonite was exactly one year from bobbys first appearance in a mlb game. I was at that game and it was cool to see the mountain man come out and throw 101. At the time I told my son it could be huge for the sox if this kid is for real. Well, a year later, bobby is an all-star.

But I wish ozzie would only use him in the ninth.

two things i loved about the sox tonight...

1) Ozzie laughing with Thornton while taking him out with 2 men on in the 8th. Buehrle later laughing in the dugout with 2 men on in a 4-2 game...got to love this team.

2) Bobby Jenks striking out 4 batters for 4 outs and getting out of trouble
