If Iguchi's injury requires a trip to the disabled list, Guillen mentioned infielder Robert Valido at Class A Winston-Salem or Jorge Velandia at Triple-A Charlotte as possible replacements. Valido impressed Guillen during Spring Training, but hit only .208 for Double-A Birmingham before being moved to the Warthogs. The veteran Velandia, who plays all three infield positions, is hitting .294 with six home runs and 35 RBIs for the Knights.

Anyone seen these guys play as of late?

When did Valido get demoted?

Isn't a little early to bring up a guy for someone's lightly sprained ankle?

When did Valido get demoted?

Upon return from the DL.

I would like to see Angel Gonzalez get a shot if Gooch has to go on the DL. He is versatile, has good plate discipline, and was at one time at least rated as a good fielder.

IF Gooch has a DL trip, I don't see the absolute necessity to bring up a middle IF; Cintron can start at 2B everyday, no?

just move Uribe to second, put Dye at short, call up Sweeney.

problem solved

Let's see what happens with Iguchi first.

If nothing else, he'll have a nice rest with the All-Star break. Cintron could play until then (possibly with Mack once) just fine.

Velandia, Gonzalez, and even Lopez have to be ahead of Valido for a call up at this point. Valido is fresh off the DL and a demotion to A-ball.

I've seen the first three several times this year but haven't seen Valido since the Spring.

I think Velandia is a bit older, but I love the way he fields. I saw the two games between Charlotte and Richmond last weekend and he has very soft hands and solid range.

I don't know anything much about him, but the way he receives the ground ball is about as textbook as you can get.
