View Full Version : *Official* Sox infield injury situation update thread

Please post updates about Joe Crede's bruised forearm and Iguchi's ankle here.

Needless to say being without two starting infielders for even a game or two puts the Sox in a tenuous situation - this means that two from among Cintron, Mackowiak and Ozuna (with his sore hammy) have to start, leaving only one of them and Gload available to pinch hit or pinch run. I know Widger has played a bit of third base, but he's the only backup catcher on the roster.

Lets hope both Iguchi and Crede are all right and can return to the field very soon.

According to whitesox.com, I guess Crede's X-Rays came up negative. They said he had a "forearm contusion". So hopefully a couples days off will do the body good.

One of The Messiah's many trips to the DL was for a "shoulder contusion." But then, Mark Prior is known for going on the DL if he's having a bad hair day. Nobody else ever went on the DL for a contusion (i.e. bruise).

That's just the Cubs' way of making the Flubbie fandom think he's alright, when in all reality, his arm is going to fall off.

Nah...Mike North would say, "What the **** is a contusion?"

Sounds like Crede's gonna be all right. Maybe he'll miss a game. I'm a little more concerned about Gooch though. Ankles can be funny. Wouldn't be shocked to see him go on the DL. But there's a plan in the event he does. It'll be OK.

From what I've heard, Ozuna is the most likely DL candidate.

Note the Messiah fouled one off his ankle yesterday. Should be back in time for Labor Day.

It's looking more and more that Cintron was a wonderful pickup.....

One of the great things about the Sox is that their bench players are players that would probably be starters on any other team. I think the Sox are ready in case Iguchi or any other infielder for that matter go on the DL.

It's looking more and more that Cintron was a wonderful pickup.....Jeff Bajenaru has yet to pitch for the D-backs. He has a 3.42 ERA in 47.1 IP for their AAA affiliate.

But they're still saying he'll be back for the Boston series.

What's odd is that the ankle didn't seem to get twisted left or right. It got bent straight back, from what I saw. Maybe that's a good thing?

From what i've read iguchi says he's had worse ankle injuries than this, so he feels it's not bad at all. Let's hope it's not false optimism on his part, because it looked pretty bad from my perspective.

Can North say "contusion?" After all, it is a three-syllable word.

Do you ever watch basketball games? That ankle sprain didn't look very bad at all. He also walked off on his own power. I'm sure it stiffened up over night. Also, if he was good to go today, the sox staff would prolly sit him another day or 2 just to be sure due to the pivots his position requires. I'm no doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn express ...

Exactly. Like I said, let's hope it's not false optimism on his part... and since he's had ankle injuries before, hopefully he's right.

AM 1000 is reporting Crede will have another X-Ray today....hold your breath...Not to get anyone nervous, but anybody who has had a broken bone can tell you, sometimes the initial X-Ray can't pick up the break until the "dust settles" I broke my leg and it took 2 days to see the break....lets hope the best for Joe.

Bas-ke-t-ba-ll?

Have you ever watched basketball? A basketball ankle injury is more often than not jumping for a rebound (or jump shot or whatever) and landing awkwardly on someone's foot. I haven't seen many basketball injuries where a guy comes crashing in at an angle in basketball.

Like I said, let's hope iguchi's analysis of his ankle is correct. I'd like to assume it is, because we're going M*A*S*H in the infield right now...

I highly doubt that. Sure one of two of them would sneak into a job but to say ANY team is a stretch.

this is perhaps the most worrisome part of this injury...at this point we need to let herm & tadahito work teh magic...

as per the collision, I immediately got a flashback to ozzie's collision in 1995 (ran into rock raines while trying to field a popup in short left field - if I remember right he blew out his right knee)...that memory gave me chills...

Didn't that happen in 1992, or am I thinking about a different Ozzie injury?

And then Ozzie's replacement, Craig Grebeck, also got hurt later that season. I think that left us with Dale Sveum at SS?
