JD is in the HR Derby, interesting yet scary at the same time.

I hope he doesn't lose his swing like Konerko did a few years ago.

Very scarey. I hate the derby. Making it even worse will be Berman.

Hey, he has been in a HR slump for a little while. Maybe this will get him out of that slump.

I thought it would have been Thome instead of JD. Oh well.

Ugh.

Time for Berman to get out his Western PA atlas so he can say "This one is gonna land in Beaver Falls!"

"LOOK OUT MOON TOWNSHIP!"

"BACK BACK BACK BACK.... THAT BALL IS GONNA LAND IN CARNEGIE!"

I'd like to stab Chris Berman with a rusty nail.

Thome said he would not participate. He doesn't want to do anything that would take away from the teams chances of winning the WS.

I wish JD would have done the same, but oh well. It's probably his only chance to do something like this, so I can understand.

Konerko played much of the second half of the 2002 season
(and the first half of 2003 season) with an injured foot.

Yeah JD doesn't get the same publicity as either a PK or Thome, so I can understand him doing this. I just pray and hope it doesn't screw up his swing.

Over/Under on Berman saying, "Jermaine 'Live and Let' Dye"?

Over/Under on Berman saying, "Jermaine 'Live and Let' Dye"?

How about.. every swing of the bat he makes?

So they're not doing the international derby this year, I take it?

Over/Under on Berman saying, "Jermaine 'Live and Let' Dye"?

Assuming Berman is announcing, I would give 10:1 odds.

Does anyone know the other players that will be in the Home Run Derby? I don't really like the HR Derby but I'm interested to see who is in it.

I agree with most managers and hitting coaches. I hate the Home Run Derby. It screws up their mechanics. Look at what happened to Paulie when he did it in Milwaukee. Before the AS break, he was rippin' the cover off the ball. After, he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

Dye isn't a HR hitter, he's a line drive/gap hitter.

Thome would put on a show, but I don't want him to hurt himself.

Ryan Howard and David Ortiz will put on a show this year.

ick. i'd rather he not be in it...i hope it doesn't mess up his swing. i wish he'd have just said he didn't want to be in it like thome, but eh.

Lot's of "towering line drives" G. Offman...

We don't want Thome to get hurt and Paulie's already been in the Derby. Let JD have his turn.

Send Anderson, Maybe it'll fix his swing instead of ruining Dye's.

I hope Dye views this only as a little bit of batting practice. I'd hate to see him try to win the thing.
