22 players who will SURELY be on the team are listed. Only Thome from the Sox. More must be following?

5 yankees, 5 red sox, and 3 blue jays on that list. And that's not even all of the team. Disgusting. Throw in the one from balt and TB and thats 15/23 players from the AL East. 6/23 from the Central and 2/23 from the West.

edit: cano is on the dl, and no other second basemen are there, so it's almost a lock that iguchi will go.

3 teams without players on there; KC, Oak, and Tex

Id imagine this must be the player vote, and the rest of the guys will be picked by the staff? Ozzie has 4 of his own picks, figuring Iguchi will be named for Cano, that leaves Ozzie to pick Jenks, Contreras, Dye, and either Konerko, Crede, or A.J. I believe will will have 6 players on this team.

Im not so sure it's the players vote. or at least all of it because they are missing a backup 2b and 3b, as well as an OF I think. Luckily we have all star caliber players at those positions.

Interesting that the two 1B on the list have probably combined to play less than 10-15 games at 1B all year.

Oakland will send Swisher and Texas will send Mathews Jr. But watch out for the red-hot seller of the summer, an Elmer Dessens All-Star jersey!

That would probably mean that the 2 league leaders in home runs (Thome and Howard) would have to be voted in on the last man ballot. Great work, MLB.

I doubt that. They'll be selected tomorrow.

If that's the case, I doubt they'd be selling his jersey. My guess is he made it in on the player's vote.

Can he be voted in on the player's ballot since there is no DH? Isn't that ballot the same as the one the fans vote with? If that's the case, he's an Ozzie pick.

Well, for one, ortiz is a DH, and he was voted in via the players. He was on the ballot though as a 1B. I don't know if there is a preset ballot for the players, but even if there was, they are 1,000x more likely to write in Thome than the fans.

for what it's worth... if fans can write players in, I'm sure players can too.

How can anyone justify voting for Jason Varitek? There are 4 catchers I can think of off the top of my head that are having better seasons than him (AJ, Joe Mauer, Ivan Rodriguez, Kenji Johjima) and I'm sure there are more. I know this isn't a thread about all star voting, but that is such bull****. I'll admit I voted for Podsednik early on in voting, but once his average dropped about 50 points, I couldn't justify voting for him anymore.

You ever been to Boston? They LOVE Varitek. And they love their Sox. All of New England will vote for Varitek, of for no other reason than to make sure Posada doesn't get more votes for him.

If it wouldn't be so horrendously politically incorrect, I think MLB would repeal the fans right to vote on this. It's a complete and total travishamokery.

I don't know. There was a Frank jersey for sale in '04, and he wasn't on the team. Thome deserves to be there, but I don't need to explain the politics of MLB.

Latest word is that Ozzie will piss off the Tigers by not taking more than a couple of them to Pittsburgh. I wonder if Maggs will be one of 'em.

Personally, I'd rather see Thome rest.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure a few Sox fans will buy the Thome jersey (and possibly others) just for the nostalgia of it, but the Pirates have a horrible color scheme there.

Sox are going to have 3 pitchers and 3 position players.

FWIW, I haven't seen anyone mention it, but on the page, they say that if a player doesn't make it, the order would be cancelled. They could just be speculating based on prelim voting totals to get an early start on selling, after all, there probably would be a lot of people looking to buy an all-star jersey during the selection show, just to be part of the first people to buy it.

Where did you hear this?

If this is the case, I'd have to say it's Contreras, Buehrle, Jenks, Thome, Iguchi, and Dye. AJ or Crede possibly instead of Dye, but my money is on Dye.

I think since the game is in Pittsburgh, they are making the jerseys look like old Pirates jerseys. But yes, they are ugly.

Unless you name your sources, they don't count. Not saying it's not true, just saying nameless sources don't have much credit on a messageboard.

I know they don't. I also have enough respect for this person not to say who it is. You'll just have to take my word.

I would think...

Jenks
Garcia
Contreras
Dye
Thome
Crede

with Konerko going on the 32nd man fan vote.

If you listen to the selection show, I think the only guys who will buy a Schilling jersey are the hosts of said show. Varitek being on there is a joke. There are at least four other catchers with significantly better stats than him. Karl R. also mentions to Ozzie how Beckett and the Unit are left off this year. Hmmmm, a 4.64 and 5.25 ERA, respectively. How the hell do ya leave these guys off the squad!?!
