I didn't expect any help from the Pirates. I was hoping that they'd play the Tiggers as close as they played us, but evidently that won't be the case. As long as we take care of business the rest of the weekend, we'll be alright.

Let me cheer you up--If the Sox win one of the next two from the Cubs (which they most certainly should), they'll have a record of 53-28 at the halfway mark.

Then if they match last year's modest second half of 44-37, they'll win 97 games for the year. The number of games to win the wildcard is going to be high this year because of interleague dominance, but I think 97 games will get them in. If it's as the wildcard, then tip your cap to the Tigers, and beat them in the ALCS.

In many ways, Super Troll is the reason WSI is here today or at least the main driving force behind finding a place where trolls were killed with extreme prejudice. He made the ESPN forums unreadable and forced the core group of posters to go looking for a place where he couldn't get in.

I find it very small for someone to attempt to disconnect a fan from their favorite team, especially a fan that is probably truly enjoying Tiger baseball for the first time in over a decade.

Truth be told, I find it intolerable as well... I don't know if you listen to the Tigers broadcasts or not, but just listen to Jim Price. Every time he says we makes me cringe, and he's even associated with the team (being a crappy former backup catcher whose only claim to fame was being on the 1968 team).

I'm into my fourth decade of enjoying White Sox baseball, and I was rewarded with my first championship last year. They play baseball, no matter how badly. I watch, or listen or follow as the case may be. It irritates me when Sox fans say "we," and I'm sure it irritates more people when Tigers fans come here and pronounce "we" like they own the place.

The crap that Ordonez pulled on Sox fans should be enough to knock the "we" out of any fan.

Any of you Sox fans think Zach Miner is going to get exposed today? I hope I'm wrong, but I can definitely see it happening. Our offense had better show up today.

I think he's your typical RH sinkerballer, i.e. a lot of balls in play on the ground, sometimes how many of them become hits is a matter of luck. I'd say Houston already exposed him even though he didn't give up that many runs. Most days you give up 12 baserunners in 5.1 you're going to get your a** kicked.

On the other hand, I don't think the Pirates match up well against him. Miner has a pretty bad lefty/righty split and Casey's the only decent lefthanded hitter they have. Plus, being an N.L. team in an N.L. park he'll be able to allow quite a few singles and still hang out. He has to avoid letting Burnitz accidently run into one. He keeps the ball in the park, he's got a solid chance of 6IP 2 or 3 runs.

Doesn't seem like he's going to match up well against us, however. Us having Jim Thome and all.

Tiger23
07-02-2006, 12:46 PM
Carlos Guillen did his best Thome impression there, driving one into the river.

I agree about Miner, Houston did already seem to expose him a bit. I'm thankful for the job he has done so far, but don't expect it to continue, though it may against Pittsburgh.

Pirates trail 9-4 on an E-6. Those errors are just murdering Rodney. Talk about a defense not helping you out, that is ridiculous. Rodney departs.

Wild pitch, Craig Wilson scores. Pirates trail 9-5 with 2 runners on and 1 out and Bay at the plate.

Double play to end the inning, but the Pirates are down by 1 going to the 8th with a depleted Tiger bullpen.

Any of you Sox fans think Zach Miner is going to get exposed today? I hope I'm wrong, but I can definitely see it happening. Our offense had better show up today.

Well, I guess I was wrong for the most part about Miner. But talk about seeing a team unravel. You guys have all predicted a big Tiger slide. If they lose this game today, we may be seeing the start. It's depressing.

Well, that sort of depends on your point of view....

1 out double for Jason Bay and that looked GONE. Ugh, but we'll take it. The Battlin' Buccos will not go away. Do this thing, Pirates.

Freddy Sanchez intentionally walked. Joe Randa and his 1 career walkoff HR from opening day last year coming up! White Sox Josh has his eyes glued to the tube for this.

Watching this guy has to be hell for Tigers fans. However, Leyland is a fan of sticking with his guys and Jones will be the closer for a long while.

Castillo K's. 2 down. Let's go Pirates!

JUribe1989
07-02-2006, 03:52 PM
Jose Castillo has been anti-clutch today with that DP and the huge out right there. Humberto Cota had a walkoff hit last year against the Mets and a 2 out blast against the D-Rays last year to tie the game in the 9th. This guy has been clutch!

Game over. 9-8 Tigers. The Sox are going to have to put at least 3 more up next inning.

On the bright side, another save for me from Jones in the WSI Fantasy League.

Jones was lucky to get that. Why isint the previous pitcher (his name escapes me) the closer? With his 95-100 MPH fastballs

Tiger23
07-02-2006, 04:12 PM
Whew. Wow.

You're right, watching Jones is absolute hell for us. Fortunately he usually does the job, albeit in interesting fashion.

The pitcher you're thinking of is Zumaya. Leyland has said he doesn't believe he is ready to assume the closer's role just yet. He is just a rookie after all, and he was never a reliever in the minors. We Tiger fans absolutely love him, and he will be in that role soon without a doubt.

Say what you want about the pirates, but they do have a scrappy team.
