Yea, let's give up on Iguchi and pick up Ray Durham again...he won the game for San Fran today...and we needed our backup second basemam to win the game for us...

atleast I got some people backing me. Yeah he'll get a hit here and there and I am not saying to trade him, I;m just saying it would be nice to see some production out of the guy. I am all for him, don't get me wrong. He also needs to learn how to bunt that was a problem last year and it remains a problem this year

His current AVE, OBP and fielding percentage is higher than last season. He is on pace to have more runs, hits, doubles and RBIs than last season. Other categories are "worse" when compared to last year but not drastically.

Not quite sure what the problem is here...

I think he wants Iguchi to produce like Sadaharu Oh:
http://www.500hrc.com/Images/monthly/2006_05/quote-Oh3.jpg

And hit 900 homeruns. I agree with him, that's not too much to ask for.

If there is one person on this team I am not worried about, it is Iguchi. Right behind Dye, he has been one of the most consistant hitters on our team. I doubt his average has ever dipped below .240 or .250 over any two or three week span this year.

His average has never dipped below .284 all season long. The biggest funk was earlier this month when his average dipped below .290 for four games in a row.

I meant his average for a 2 or 3 week span - meaning that he has never really slumped. If he hits like .200 over 2 weeks, he could still have a season average in the .290s if he started above .300, but I don't think he's ever hit below .250 over any given 2 weeks. Also, wasn't he leading the league in 3 hit games a while ago? Anyone know if he still is?

So basically, Iguchi is the one guy that you don't have to worry about causing our team to slump.

Incorrect. he hit .280 after the June 9th game and that was his biggest funk.

He started the month at .290 and is currently at .289.

To the person who posted this thread: Have you been watching the White Sox over the past two seasons? Iguchi takes more pitches than anybody on the team, he seems to always do the fundamental things in the game like hitting to the right side of the infield with a runner on second and no outs, hitting a sac fly, dropping down a bunt, etc. etc. etc. He is one of the most consistent hitters in the lineup along with JD. Ripping Iguchi is just dumb.

For a guy that had never been exposed to a changeup, I think the guy is ridiculous for what he has done on this team.

Oh, yeah, one more thing. Show me a guy that doesn't go into slumps, and I'll show you a guy that isn't a baseball player, to wax Harrelson.

Well, according to DJ, who played in Japan, the straight change is not used in Japan at all. There are screwballs, forkballs, slurves, and the like, but no straight changes at all. That's what DJ has been saying for two years now.

Of course the original poster was correct. If Iggy just hits a single in the 9th, Thome would have hit a grand slam and the White Sox would have won the game. How selfish of Iggy to hit a grand slam.

Don't worry about it. You can question Guch all you want. However, don't even get close to questioning Gooch!

I assume you're talking this Guch guy and not Gooch since this thread has abundant references to "Gooch" and you still talk about "Guch."

I made a specialty out of teaching my pitchers the straight change and since I still have a standing offer to pitching coach in the minors there, I assume that very few Japanese throw straight changes. The circle change was not as much of a mystery to Japanese pitchers however.
