Just thought I'd add something to yesterday's Great Falls/Billings game. I am the official scorer for the Mustangs, and the strangest play of all occured in last night's game.

According to our rosters, Vernon Carter is actually "Chris" Carter, which I believe is his true name (to avoid confusion here). Anyway, Carter came up to bat in the top of the 4th with a man on first, and hit an RBI single, yes, and RBI single scoring a man from first. Carter hit the ball over the fence in left field, but while admiring the shot, didn't notice that the runner (Lee Cruz) was waiting a step off of first to make sure he didn't need to tag (instead of going halfway up the line). Carter passed Cruz on the basepath by a foot before realizing that Cruz was standing right next to him. The runners attempted to correct the mistake, and after a little confusion the umpire pointed at Carter before he touched 3rd base and called him out. There was no argument by the White Sox.

I scored it a RBI single, with an unassisted putout by the 1st baseman, so if you read the milb.com log you'll see it scored as such, however the game wrap reads of Carter slapping an RBI single. Very interesting play and I thought I'd share it with you guys. Carter atoned for his mistake in the 9th however and nailed one out to deep center.
