View Full Version : Question on tonight's Cardinals starter

It looks to me like tonight's Cardinals starter (Anthony Reyes) had decent numbers in his only 2 starts this season. My question is, if he looked halfway decent, why hasn't he started since 5/30? In fact, it looks like he hasn't played at all in 3 weeks. Has he been injured? Is St. Louis just so loaded with starting pitchers that this kid can't crack their rotation? Or is there some other explanation?

Hes their hot prospect who has looked filthy in the minors and pretty good so far up here. The cardinals have refused to put him in the rotation until injuries but Im guessing he will be staying up for good now.

The way we are swinging though I dont care how good this kid is

He has been lights out at AAA. In 11 starts he is 4-1 with an ERA of 3.04 and a WHIP of 0.97. He has 65 Ks and 8 BBs over 71 innings pitched.

I found this blog (http://reyeswatch.blogspot.com/) devoted to Anthony Reyes.

In the big leagues he is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA. However, his ERA is deflated by 5.1 shutout innings pitched against Kansas City. His other start came against the National League, which is a joke this year. He allowed 3 earned runs over 6.1 in that start, which is pretty mediocre considering that there is no DH in the NL.

His stats look good... anyone know what he has as his repetoire? arm angles? etc?

I hope everyone is right about how we will do against this guy but before we get to giddy, lets not forget how the team sometimes does against rookies they have never faced before.

He'll be the best starter we'll have faced in this 3-game series, IMO.

Good prospect. Doesn't mean the events of the past 2 days won't make him soil himself and we may still kick his sorry butt all over the park, but this kid will be the toughest of the 3 to face, IMO.

I agree.

With Garcia pitching a night game at home with the Sox on the verge of a sweep, we should be thankful enough that Reyes isn't a lefty. :o:

I would be surprised if the Sox score in double digits tonight. Really, any time the Sox score in double digits I'm delightfully surprised.

I expect this guy will be tough, but I expected more from Mulder.

That kid pitched a hell of a game...one mistake...luckily garcia and jenks were lights out and one mistake was all it took. He pitches like this for the rest of the year we may see the cards again.

The guy's control was excellent and his confidence great. Glad we won't be seeing him again until maybe the World Series. Too bad the Cards wasted him on the Sox. I think he could have a great chance at a win in Detroit.

The Reyes kid pitched his ass off. He looks like he has great stuff, plus the red throwback socks are a nice touch.
