Let's put it this way. He's through 7 innings and the only baserunners to reach base have come on walks. However, he's past 110 pitches, so it could be a tough decision for Felipe Alou.

:noevil:

That is a lot of pitches. It would be great to see him get a crack at it though.

Aww crap. Figgins lines a 3-2 pitch into center with 2 outs. Just before the pitch a ball got loose from the bullpen and you have to wonder if that messed up Cain's concentration. Too bad for Cain. Now he just has to try to preserve the lead.

I think Alou probably would have given him a shot to finish too, despite the high-pitch count. He's an old-school manager. I think he allowed Schmidt to throw 140 pitches during a one-hit shutout either last year or the year before.

Tough break for the kid. He made a good run at it though.

I think he would have too. Cain still had a lot of zip on his fastball, and there was no one even warming up in the pen until he gave up the hit.

Cain did hold the lead. He's through eight innings now. Tough break losing the no-hitter. It seems like a lot of guys have flirted with no-hitters this year, but no one has been able to finish it off yet.

How'd the angels get the run?

How'd the angels get the run?

Figgins walked in the first, stole second and scored on a throwing error.

Don't laugh about that jinx. Remember that game in 2004 when Buehrle was going for the perfecto? My brother runs to me like I wasn't watching the game shouting, "Buehrle's got a perfect game going!!!" About a minute later, Vizquel lined a single up the middle to break it up. Earlier that year, the OPRF Freshman baseball team was playing York. Neil Mejia had a no-hitter going into the 7th when one of the players goes up to him and goes, "Hey Neil! You got a no-hitter going!!!" First batter in the bottom of the 7th? Bloop single to center.
