Just heard on the Score: MLB rules on Michael Barrett's suspension, and upheld the 10 games. Finally. Nearly a month after this ass bag gives A.J. the forearm. He'll be back in time for the Sox series at the Urinal.

Awesome... the asshat managed to miss the Tigers series anyways, and now he gets a 10 day vacation vs our other two significant division rivals.

Henry Blanco has kicked a little ass as his replacement, though.

Wow! I can't believe it held up. When is the last time a suspension held up? It seems like every apeal gets busted down a game or two.

What about BA? I'm sure his will be upheld too

It sounds like Barrett didn't want to answer some of their questions and/or was being asked questions that he didn't think would be asked.

Questions like, "Did you swing first?" "Why?"

True, can't really complain about him not facing the Tigers since Blanco went:

6-11 with 2 HR's, 3 RBI's

They are saying on the score that Anderson's hearing may not happen until June 29th.:?:

Does mlb have a sick sense of humor timing this suspension deal so that his first game back is against the Sox?

I suppose it is coincidence but geeez- kind of hard to believe that they would not just hold off for three more days and make sure that barrett and AJ do not meet at the plate again.

MLB is just flat out clueless at times. Do they want an incident at wrigley?

With barrett out of the picture then there would be no question that the sox would not be obligated to retaliate in any way. Now there will be some buzz about it and the umps may be forced to warn both dugouts before the series and seriously impact the pitching styles of both sides.

Is that what mlb wanted to accomplish. And Henry blanco is not going to hit well for the next ten games, you can book it. The frigging sox will again get no help from the scrubs.

Just not very happy with the way this was handled. It could have been a distant memory if they had acted quickly, now, it will be a continuing story line for the series in wrigley.

I don't think the Sox are worrying or will worry about retaliating. All they have to do is look at the newspaper everyday and see what sorry shape the "team" from the northside is in.

Yeah, if there is any 'retaliation' it is more likely to be for the Cubs' utter failure to even slow down the Tigers this weekend.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some of the drunks -- er, fans -- at Wrigley decide to go after AJ, though, in the 3 games up there.

Good deal that Barrett's suspension was upheld. He earned every game of it and more. It should have been 20 games.

I don't know. On Sunday when the Sox are leading 12-1 in the 8th going for the sweep, a nice 95 MPH to Barrett's ribs may be the perfect ending to this entire episode.

Nevin is their back-up catcher.

It would be nice if Barrett did a BA type move thrusting his crotch out as the inside pitch hit him in a magic spot.

Cannot remember who did that recently for the sox and he got hit in the magic spot and hawk mentioned the other nite that BA has got to be careful with his pelvic thrust cuz he could get -----.

Bottom line- barrett should take a knee or a pitch to that spot.

They'll likely call up C Geovany Soto from the minors.

What I couldn't understand is how the media viewed what Barrett did as something that would "spark" the Cubs. Since Barrett punched AJ, the Cubs have gone 11 and 18. I guess that's an improvement!

Interestingly, he comes back on 6/30 right on time for the White Sox @ Wrigley.

It would also be nice if MLB told Barrett that upon review of the incident they had decided not to shorten the suspension but actually extend it another 10 and triple his fine since it had come to their attention that he's a huge drillrod.

But then again, the punishment is probably fitting. I mean, would you rather take an additional ten games off sitting on the beach getting hammered or writhing in the agony that is the Cubs 2006 season?

I wonder if Barrett's pregame comments on the SCORE had a role in the full ten day suspension being upheld?

"The forearm"? He gave AJ a full-fledged shot to the grill! Upholding the 10 games was the least they could do.

And lost in the how many games discussion is, just what caused the delay anyhow? As briefly mentioned on WSCR, the Cubs blamed any delay on MLB, but MLB in turn (per WSCR) said "This is what happens when the club gets involved.", suggesting the Cubs DID have some input in a delayed appeal hearing. One theory was that the Cubs were dragging their feet for an appeal on the off chance that Derek Lee would be back while Barrett served his sentence.

And finally, having Barrett suspended does NOT open a roster spot (again, per WSCR) so I am sure it's a coincidence that Glendon Rusch's back suddenly flared up.

I'm surprised MLB just didn't say " I think we'll just let this one go, playing for the Cubs is punishment enough"

From a practical perspective, on Friday if the Cubs knew Barrett would be sitting all weekend, why didn't they just drop the appeal? Then the 10 games would have started on Friday and he would be back 3 days earlier.

The only think I could think of is if the Cubs thought the suspension would be reduced to 6 games or less, something that would be hard to imagine.

This is a team that expected Wood and Prior be ready for opening day. Analyzing circumstances and predicting outcomes don't seem to be among the things done well among the Cubs.
