Angels activate Colon, demote 4-0 Jered Weaver to minorsJune 17, 2006 ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The Angels activated reigning Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5763/) from the 15-day disabled list following Friday night's 5-4 loss to the San Diego Padres (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/sdg/), and optioned rookie right-hander Jered Weaver (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7708/) to Triple-A Salt Lake.

How do you send this pitcher down? What additional work does he need in AAA? Jeff Weaver (6.15 ERA) is worthless in the American League. Colon (7.07 ERA) looks awful this season including his rehab starts.

Unless they are looking to start Jeff Weaver one more time to pawn him back to the NL the team is giving up on the season.

I figure they must be soon getting rid of Jeff so Jered can come back him up. I doubt any team bites, though.

How ****ing stupid are the Angels? They won't get rid of Jeff Weaver (who sucks this year), but they'll get rid of Jared Weaver, who has been their best pitcher so far. They don't deserve to stay in contention now. They need to fall flat on their face and suffer as a result of such a stupid move.

Maybe they'll recall him when they trade Shields to the Sox.

Jeff Weaver wouldn't clear waivers. Jared doesn't have to be put through.

Roster Management 101 - he had no choice.

They could have traded Jeff - they had an extra week due to Bartolo having yet another crappy rehab start. They could have let Bartolo have one more rehab start (his start today was almost as bad as Prior's) while trying to trade Jeff Weaver.

They could have moved Jeff to the bullpen, kept Jered in the rotation and sent down Morales or Quinlan. How many ****ty 1B do you need on your roster with the ****tiest everyday 1B in MLB over the past few years Erstad also on the roster?

Now they have two ****ty starters in the rotation and their best starter in the minors. They punted this season with this move if it isn't rectified before the All Star Break.
