Well, I know it's still June, but does anybody agree with me on the fact that the Braves are done? Right now, they're 30-36, and they're 12 games out of first. Don't forget that they're just 0.5 games out of fourth (Nats are 30-37), and just 3 games out of last place. I don't think they even have enough to catch a Wild Card spot. The National League is bad, but the Braves are terrible. They're finished.

Going on a decade now, I have predicted the demise of the Braves and they kept coming back like Kathy Bates in Misery. So this year I predicted the Braves to win the division and it's finally worked! :bandance:

Seriously tho, it's not so much the Braves are finished as the Mets are rocking and rolling right now. Once they ended the Jose Lima Experiment, they became bona fide in the East. And with Aaron Rowand singlehandedly carrying the Phillies as he would have carried the White Sox were he still here, it's crying time for the Braves.

Maybe KW can pry Andruw Jones away from the ailing Braves.

Don't ever count out the Braves until they are officially eliminated from contention. Two years ago everybody said the Braves were finished and look what happened.

It's been a long time since a team like the Mets has been in that division. Like the Indians, the Braves will find out it's awfully difficult to pass two teams.

They are done.

Yeah, I see them more than any other team these days, and they're done, unfortunately. :(: But they still have $5 seats! Woo hoo!

Right now the Braves are pretty near the bottom of the league in pitching. It really doesn't bode well for their future this season. In the last month or so I would say even the marlins have been a better team than them.

Their pitching staff is terrible. It's a combination of not having enough talent and not having someone to work with such little talent (Leo Mazzone). If you don't think that having a good pitching coach makes a difference, look at Russ Ortiz and Jorge Sosa. Both guys had good success with Atlanta under Mazzone and are now struggling to stay at the major league level (well, not Ortiz anymore). Or, just look at the difference Don Cooper made in Jose Contreras. Losing Mazzone has been a huge factor in the demise of the Braves.

Not to mention how the Houston Chronicle literally wrote the Astros' obituary when they went 15-30 last year.

Mazzone is a good pitching coach, yes, but the jury is still out on Roger McDowell. I don't think Mazzone would make that much of a difference were he still in Atlanta, I don't think the talent is there. Not like the Orioles pitching is any better this year; last year their team ERA was 4.56 over the whole season, thus far in 2006 it's 5.30. (Although Atlanta has gone from a 3.98 to a 4.78)

So does this mean Andruw Jones should be wearing a Sox uniform by July 1st?

In the past, I was not surprised when the Bravos came back to win their division to prove all of the self proclaimed experts wrong; they had a good core staff, and there was always one pitcher who came from nowhere to help the team. Was it Leo? I think he played a part in it. But there always a can-do attitude in the clubhouse, the younger guys' hunger really fed the team's chemistry.

This year is not the same as the past. There are few positives that one can give to that team right now - Renteria is having a good time at the plate, and McCan is surpassing his expectations. Other than that, that team is lifeless right now, and there is no identity. I think they are done this year.

The really sad part is that the city of Atlanta, as a whole, never really cared one way or the other.

I'm not going to write them off just yet, but it's not looking good. Jorge Sosa needs to improve in a hurry. The Braves might need Sosa to have a 2nd half this year like he did last year.

Oh, and Jeff Franceour, TAKE A ****ING PITCH!! Holy crap is he annoying to watch sometimes. He needs to get some plate discipline in a hurry if he's going to ever be more than a right-handed Jeromy Burnitz.

I agree. You can't count out anybody in June, except maybe the Royals this year. Cox and the Braves know how to win, although obviously they have a lot of work cut out for them...

The good news is, maybe we won't be subjected to that awful "Tomahawk Chop" this October..
