View Full Version : Guess The Number Of HRs Garland Will Serve Tonight

DrCrawdad

Jon Garland has been serving up homeruns at an alarming rate. Tonight Garland faces the tough Texas sluggers. This doesn't bode well for Garland. So, let's have a bit of fun. Guess the number of homeruns Garland will give up to Texas tonight. The winner gets a 78 of Judy Garland's smash hits.

"So you wanna know about home runs, in Texas, against da Ranger lineup, on a humid night, with Jonny Garland back ta his "one big inning" routine? Da correct answer, Bab, is dat Jon Garland will in fact hit two home runs tanight. Ozzie Guillen will dazzle da pundits by resting Jim Thome and letting Garland go ta bat for himself, just ta piss Buck Showalter off."

I voted 3. Two solo shots and a 2-run dinger in ~7 IP would actually be a pretty good start for Jon this year, assuming of course he doesn't allow any other runs.

I say Blaylock takes him deep but otherwise he limits the damage.

As for Mack, I say he starts tonite against sinkerballer Loe, then BA is out there against Padilla and lefty Reiniecker. Then BA will get milton in cinncy with mack against harang and claussen.

Or not.

After Brian's last couple of games, I'm sure he's cemented his spot in the starting lineup for at least a few days.

You are probably right , BA will be in the lineup tonite, then Oz will sit him in the texas heat against Padilla and then back in against the lefty reinecker. Then maybe sit him two of three games against cinncy with no DH to help our offense.

Garland's problem has not been the homeruns. He has always given up his share of them. His problem is that he is when he is giving them up. He has given up far to many with men on base.

I guessed that he will give up three homeruns tonight. That would be fine as long as they come with no one one base, and as long as he pitches seven or more innings.

I did NOT call Jon, Judy Garland. In a sarcastic tone (using teal) I said the winner of the poll would get a Judy Garland 78 RPM record. Of course that's a mere joke.

I can't imagine why this poll or my (joke) offer of a Judy Garland record would offend the mods.

Kudos to all of you who said ZERO. We have to keep the faith in JG. I mean what other option do we have right now?

I don't think it's wise to put McCarthy in the rotation right now. Garland hasn't been as good as last year but hopefully he will snap outta the "funk" he's in right now. And by some miracle return to the form he was in last year.

Jose Contreras did it last year, If I remember correctly, JC had a so-so first half last year and he was possible trade bait in talks for AJ Burnett. JC turned it around after the all-star break and has been lights out ever since. Thank God we didn't make any deals involving JC.

My point is, give JG the benefit of the doubt right now. He was a big reason we won the WS last year so he deserves the benefit of the doubt for at least a little while for that simple fact. He just might surprise some people and turn his season around ala Jose Contreras last year.

And I've heard a couple of rumors involving us trading JG. KW if you're listening: DON'T TRADE JG!!

So again, GREAT JOB by those of you who have faith in JG and said ZERO!!

That's a good sign. Home runs given up is not necessarily a terrible thing. Curt Schilling was way up around 30 in 2001 when he was the best pitcher in baseball next to the Big Unit. I'd be more worried if Garland was walking a bunch of guys. This just shows you he's got to get back and stick to pitching inside and being aggressive like he did last year and he should be fine.

He's a really heady guy, I wouldn't be surprised if he has another big winning streak like he did last year, although not necessarily 9-0 or whatever it was. He has the tendency to be dominant for a while or mediocre for a while. He doesn't vary much from start to start, he's a lot more streaky by nature. I wouldn't be surprised if he put it together and reeled off a nice winning streak here. Holding a lineup like Texas at bay is a good start, especially for his own psyche.

Hitmen77

That was a great outing by Garland. He likely would have lasted longer if the defense didn't let him down. Without Pods' and Dye's miscues, it would have been 5-1, runner on 1st and two out in the 6th and he would have had a much better chance of staying in the game.
