View Full Version : Mac Jurko Harry fight

I was listening to MJH today and harry and Mac got in a big fight. There was some "gd's" exchanged and finally ended with them screaming insults at each other.

Funny thing was...it wasn't even about sports. It was over the issue of talking on your cell phone when they are doing the show.

Mac ended it by say " we'll be right back! At least one of us will"

after 10 minutes of commercials, Silvy and carmen had to fill in for the rest of the show.

pretty damn funny

Yesterday they were playing some clips of Harry and Jurko taking shots at Sean Salisbury. What's that all about?

This seems pretty par for the course. Every once in awhile Mac and Harry get into a little piss-fit. Wasn't Harry complaining a little while ago about how Mitch Rosen purposefully makes lives miserable for his on-air staff to create the situations like the Mulligan/Murph one?

If it's all in the name of ratings, they must be pretty worried about Boers and Bernstein.

In any event, hopefully they get rid of that show all together.

I have no idea who any of these people are (or Sean Salisbury for that matter), but I'm sure I would have laughed out loud if I had heard it. It's nice that radio hires people who obviously otherwise lack skills to make a decent living.

Gospel.

Jurko isn't qualified to work college radio in Iowa, let alone on a 50,000 watt station. Mac is a blowhard. The only guy on that show I have an inkling of respect for is Harry.

FWIW, here's a thread (http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=5268&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) on this topic at the Score's website for anyone who cares.

Nothing too exciting, but apparently Mac posts there and he posted on the thread denying that this was a publicity stunt. Sure.

Is this what happened? I turned on ESPN1000 right around that time. I don't listen enough to know the schedule, but I happened to be driving in my car and Silvey and Carmen were on and talking about how they didn't expect to have to do the show this early and needed callers to fill in the extra time. I didn't know what happened so I thought they screwed up somehow.

Anyway, that's in teresting. It's amazing when people getting paid a good living to talk get so upset over something so stupid that they won't continue to talk.

This is nothing but a publicity stunt. When Harry and McNeil had their first tirade on the air, their ratings skyrocketed. Since then, they have been the top sports show in the city. If they hated each other so much, they wouldn't be on the air together.

This was not a publicity stunt at all. I know one of the producers for Silvy and Carmen and he called me right after the fight to ask me if I heard it. Both of them were sent home on the spot. If both are back on the air today then you could say it was a stunt, but I imagine there will be some suspensions. Those two argue on the air and that is what makes the show good, but things like this are not planned.

I stopped watching that show a couple years ago when one of the **** heads kept making jokes about Bulls color man Johnny Kerr, saying he was going to die soon. For some reason they all thought that was funny. I remember some guy called in to tell them that they weren't funny and that it was immature and morbid to say things like that, but whoever had made the last remark (I think it was Jurko) laughed it off.

According to this moron, MJ&H's unpredictable, gut-busting, uncensored comedy (this is SuperTeal) is what gives them their audience. Funny, I thought the only reason they had an audience was because sports fans on their way to or from work didn't want to listen to the Score.

Just in case these pricks are trolling these boards, I'd like them to know that Johnny Kerr has more integrity, more guts, and more substance in his seventy four year old sac than they've had in any joke over the last five years.

I've actually gotten tired of listening to MJ&H. I can't stand Yurko or Tiny. Lately Mac has really started to get on my nerves. He acts like such a know it all. I heard the last part of the fight and I think Mac got mad because Tiny said something about talking on his cell phone to his wife. I don't know. All I gotta say is you're grown men, act like it! I like Silvy and Carmen better myself.

I think I understand why, although it's kind of a dumb reason. Murphy is about my age, I think maybe a year or so younger, so he grew up watching TV in the '50s and '60s. Somehow he has audio tape (apparently) of old TV shows.

The CBS thing started in 1966 or '67 when CBS went from showing all B&W shows to color. For a period of about 10 years, only NBC of the three networks that were in operation back then, showed any color programming. Each station had it's own way of announcing which shows were in color. NBC had the Peacock, CBS had the introduction Murphy uses on his show (showing swirling colors, IIRC), and ABC just showed the show title with "IN COLOR" in small letters underneath. By abou 1968 or so all shows on all networks were in color and the intros were dropped.

The other is Robert (Bob) Cummings. It's the opening to The Bob Cummings Show, in which he played Bob Collins, a professional photographer and ladies man. The show actually had a pretty good cast: Rosemary DeCamp (who played James Cagney's mother in Yankee Doodle Dandy) played his sister, a widow, Dwayne Hickman (Dobie Gillis a few years later) his nephew, and Ann B. Davis (later of the Brady Bunch) his secretary. Nancy Kulp (Jane Hathaway on the Beverly Hillbillies) had a recurring role as a bird watcher who was trying to snare him. Cummings was probably at best a B-level movie star. He is probably best known for his starring roles in Hitchcock's Saboteur and as the young psychiatrist who cures Ronald Reagan in King's Row. He was a pilot and a fanatical swimmer. He had his kids swimming before they could even walk. I think he might have gotten into some trouble in the '60s or '70s for some of the stuff he was bringing across the border in his plane, but I won't swear to that.

In reference to MJ&H's favorite tag line: that must be the screamingest dork corner tavern of all time if those three morons are at its helm.

It's pathetic that Chicago sports fans can possibly spend any time at all listening to an ex-Packer from the south side who somehow likes the Cubs (fitting, because he doesn't know a baseball from a rolled up sock) and the tiny one who seems to revel in goofball analysis that offers no more insight than that of your average housewife.

mac is such a big sox fan when they are rolling but in the tough times he quickly turns on them. Even on Friday , he relished in reviving the ''Judy'' tag for Jon. he always called Garland -Judy, and Joe- lamb in 04. And continued to label Joe right up til the postseason and now he is a big ''fan '' of Joe.

Same with Garland when he started to win- mac became a ''fan '' of garland til his next losing streak of course. he is a wind sock on his beloved Sox.
Still having said all that , I do like him most of the time.

harry is ok, he plays the sentimental fan like all of us. He has pissed me off when he would pick on certain sox players( Carlos Lee,Joe Crede,Willie Harris,Cotts, Big Frank,) while favoring his drinking buddies- Wunsch,Foulke,Rowand, and Fordyce.

What bothered me was he says he roots for the sox but would play favs with his fav players over the betterment of the team as a whole. He was a fan of certain sox players but when it came to the cubs he was always team first cuz I do not think he would go drinking or socialize with cub players.

As far as jurko, he is a mac pet and is clearly favored by mac. I think they would be stupid to kill a winning formula.

How can you even say this? Boers and Bernstein are the worst radio show on in Chicago. All they do is make fun of their callers. They will latch on to one thing a caller says and make fun of it the entire show. When I hear them on the radio I could sware I was listening to a couple 8th graders in a debate. Today I get in my car and they are ripping on Jon Garland after he pitches his second good game in a row. Calling him a .500 pitcher and telling everyone to look at the numbers. So we have to look all the way back to when he was 19 pitching in the Major leagues. These guys are just like the rest of them. Morons

Them tearing Andy Van Slyke to peices for days or even a full week after he gave an interview on some other station (or was it 670) even when I thought he made some good points. But those idiots were not having any of it. It's like Im back at the 8th grade lunch table with these dopes.

yea, B&B were all over garland again today. Too many pitches, cant pitch over fielding miscues, basically a disaster waiting to happen.

Someone calls in and despite calling him Judy to seek their approval the caller is shut down when he points out the two flyballs not caught and the doubleplay not made. And how that affects pitch count, and that he did pitch over the doubleplay not made and pods catch not made. they wouldn't hear of it.

They get on a guy and thats it- he will never be anything but a object of ridicule after that- pods is one of their fav targets mainly cuz sox fans banded together to get him to the all star game. During and after that they ripped him constantly, and continue to even today. Said he was lazy and not running hard down the line.

While I do enjoy their show, (although less in the last few months), the premise of them ridiculing and exposing idiot callers is a bit flawed, as they sometimes intentionally screen the calls to ensure they get said callers on the air. Then, they can easily mock them and shut them down. It's lil' Danny's way of making himself feel ever so much smarter. I compare it to somebody in 4th grade going down they hall to rip on and make fun of all the pre-school and kindergartners because they didn't color inside the lines. Being the smartest in a room full of complete dummies really doesn't make you that smart. Dan & Terry have the bully pulpit of a radio show where they can shout down people and then cut them off when they are trying to make a point, no matter how dumb, (or when the person is actually making a good point that may show B & B to be wrong), and that makes them feel smarter and better than everyone else.

Dan: "Aaron Boone took Freddie Garcia deep....heck, Daniel Boone could have taken Freddie Deep yesterday." HAHAHAHAHAHHHAAHA

Dan: "Let me display my profound knowledge of epicurean techniques."

B&B: "All callers are morons"

1- Most people who call in radio talk show ARE morons. They deserve what they get. I actually like it when B & B lay into the idiots. It's funny.

2- It's actually only Boers who can be unfair to the callers. Anyone who listens and actually pays attention can see that Bernstien ALWAYS gives the caller the opportunity to make a cogent point. The callers just usually fail.

3- B & B are the only sports radio show that attempt to approach stupid sports ideas (Bears weather, unwritten rules) from a logical standpoint. Plus, they are the only sports radio hosts who attempt to speak English correctly, and try not to be sexist/racist (Mike North).

I like B and B, but they cannot be wrong. Every once in a while they get a caller with some knowledge that can think on the spot, and they have to eat their lunch. Those are fun, if they dont cut the caller off. Most of the time the callers aren't quick enough on their feet for a decent rebuttal - Which is known as the "jerk store" handicap.

Nope...Bernstein will back off some of the more incendiary topics (in case Boers goes wayy ooover and gets fired), so he is smart there.

But he does his fair share of moron rants.

Like I said, they think they are are the funniest and the smartest, ask em, they'll tell you.

Everyone else is a moron.....

Have to admit, found my self looking forward to them and Silvy & Carmen each day. Some one asked if there is audio of the tussle. I missed it, so I'll ask too, any audio links?

Boers and Bernstein are the best on the radio. They attack sacred cows and do not put up with idiots. Pods has not been up to par this year. What do you want them to say?

I have no problem with them doing that...ripping on players not meeting expectations.I do have a problem with them spending most of the show laughing at themselves thinking they are funny.Like someone else said,it's like listening to a couple of 8th graders.
