Henderson was a great player, but I've always found his arrogance extremely irritating- "Rickey will play as long as Rickey wants to." I've never understood why athletes refer to themselves in the third person, and he has done it more than most.

I hate Giambi a hell of a lot more than Mientkiewicz, that's why. Also, he's on the Royals now, hard to hate someone playing on a .250 team; and if you do hate them, then they're getting they're what they deserve.

Paul Molitor?

:dunno:

I hated him on the Brewers (when we were rivals) and I hated him on the Twins. I agree he wasn't an assclown like many of the guys on my list.

Cey and Garvey (outside of his 284 children) weren't either - I just hated the Dodgers - especially the Dodgers in the 1970s.

Eckersly cost me 3 grand in 1988 giving up the Gibson HR.

Most of the rest either were idiots or seriously stunk on the White Sox.

Wells, Zambrano, Sosa, Bonds, Belle and Sanders are the ones I hate the most.

Why anyone on this board would put anyone at 1B besides Doug Mientkiewicz is beyond me

:dunno: I'm a Mets fan so I should hate him more than most (for being worthless on the team last year). Why should everyone hate him? The World Series ball? McGwire is my first 1B choice.

Why do you hate Eric Byrnes and for the starter are you thinking of Todd Ritchie?

Byrnes never failed to make a diving catch to kill a Sox rally, or get a dink hit in a clutch situation back when he was with the A's. He always seemed a little cocky, and I needed an Oakland player (albeit former) in my lineup. I hate Oakland.

And good call on Todd Ritchie... don't know why I couldn't come up with his name.

In college we had a drunk argument whether John Kruk or Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds played the Mets' big hitter in Rookie of the Year.

Neither was correct.

Joe Randa? :?:

Second the earlier comment on Cal Ripken.

Randa is the prototypical Sox killer. Every game he has played against the Sox, he has done something to hurt them.

As for Ripken, a lot of people started to dislike him after he admitted that his consecutive games streak became more important to him than helping Baltimore win. He said that there were times when he thought he should take a day off because he was struggling, but he didn't want to jeopardize his streak.

True, Randa would give the Sox fits, especially frustrating because he was mostly with KC, a team that on paper the Sox should always handle. Most of the guys in the lists here were controversial and/or known asshats, and I don't recall Randa being either.

As for Ripken, I'd say his confession is disappointing, but not surprising.

LOL...well let's see

a.) Calls out Sox pitchers for being "*******" after getting hbp in games 1 and 2 of a series, then sits out the third game

b.) picks his fights--has he ever fought a non-pitcher in his career

c.) (and most importantly) after Laz Diaz incident at Cell in 2003 (an incident that had nothing to do with him nor his team...since we were playing the royals at the time) saw fit to make a very high-profile, very public comment that we ought to have the All-Star game taken away from US Cellular field because it's "too dangerous for the players and fans".

Yes Giambi cheated and cost Frank an MVP and sure-fire HOF status (although anyone who thinks Frank doesn't belong in the HOF anyway is a moron)...and yes Giambi campaigned against Frank for MVP in 2000, and yes McGwire cheated and blah blah blah... but read c.) and tell me how a Sox fan can leave Mientkiewicz off their list. You might as well leave Mariotti off your "lineup of most hated sportswriters"

Joe Randa? :?:

Second the earlier comment on Cal Ripken.

Other posters in this tread have done a good job of summing up the basis for my hatred for Randa: grinning freak who always seemed to do a lot of damage to the White Sox in the clutch.

As far as Ripken goes, I've had an intense hatred of the Orioles since '83. Since Ripken was the most popular and recognizable Oriole for so many years, he was always one of the players that I just could not stand. His self-centered (at the expense of his team/ teammates) quest for the streak, as well as the ceaseless ***-licking that he recieved from the media during the final years of his career did nothing but add fuel to the fire to my hate which continues to this day.
