Some photos from my weekend in Baghdad aka Detroit.

Tiger Stadium is still there....... 6 1/2 years after its last game :whiner:

Do they still have the big chain-link fence around it? Doesn't look like it--it was there as recently as 2003 if I remember right.

Have to admit I wasn't impressed with the park. Way too many gimmicks and the seats are too far away from the field

It looks cool from the outside, but you're spot on about the seats.

one cool thing is they have a statue for every retired number plus Ernie Harwell, but the Merry go Round and the ferris wheel are a little over the top

overall of all the new parks I have been to, this did the least for me. A shame when they had a classic park to begin with. Skyline looks pretty until you find out most of the buidings are vacant.

Windsor is probably still cleaning up after Red Sox Nation invaded, all the Boston people stayed in Ontario

There's talk of an announcement coming next month about them finally tearing down Tiger Stadium. It's still a hot issue on what to do with it. The sentimental folks want a museum of some type but I doubt that would be self sufficient and this city needs to focus on other things.

That $8 is for 25 ounces. I don't recall what it was at other ballparks because I was too drunk and not in charge of the kitty. How much are they at Comiskey/Cellular? I was there in 2004 but never paid for them so I dont' know.

:offtopic: Last time I was at the Joe Louis Arena, it was $8.50 for 32 ounces of beer and you pour it yourself.:gulp:

I boycotted the concessions since they are owned by Jeremy Jacobs, the second worse owner in hockey

One day I am gonna take some time to gather all of the comments about Jacobs on WSI and send them to my friend. It's gotta be weird being related to someone so hated.

wait, now that I tink about it, it's $8 for those that come in a 25 ounce can. It's $8.25 for a 32 ounce draft.

Which I still don't think is bad. that's just shy of 3 bottles. How much is 3 bottles going to cost you at a bar, with tip?

What's really funny is they advertise Little Caesar's promotion of $5 hot and ready pizzas. That's for the stores out in the real world. At the ballpark they are $13.50.

Jacobs and family own that, Jacobs Field (or at one point they did), a bunch of riverboat casinos, the Bruins, and lots of other stuff.

$6.50 for a 24 oz can of Labatt at the Jake was pretty reasonable I thought. PNC only has bottles and drafts and they're the standard $5.75 for 16oz plastic bottle.

BTW the Tigers have stolen a couple of things from the White Sox...

Saturday night when Mags hit the game breaking home run, a recording of Steam blared the Na Na song

and the fans have stolen the OEO Maggilo chant

Left unexpained is why there were numerous fans wearing Cubs gear in Detroit

Hmmm, it must have gone up right after I was there in 03 - there was nothing there at the time to keep us from walking up and trying the doors, etc.

I love Comerica - a 32 ounce beer with the "Drink Responsibly" line printed across the cup. Two, please.
