Prior to today's game vs. Texas, the Chicago White Sox placed reliever Jeff Nelson on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 3) with ulnar neuritis in his right elbow and recalled right-hander Agustin Montero from Class AAA Charlotte.

That didn't take long. I was sick of seeing bull**** hanging slider after hanging slider anyway.

Wow. Not good.

Wow. Not good.

At least Montero's got a good arm. Maybe he'll surprise us. Nelson's numbers didn't look bad, but he just doesn't have any life on his slider anymore. It's only of a matter of time until that ERA blows up considerably.

Good.

Except for the part about Montero. Give the next guy his fifteen minutes.

That's somewhat of a problem when that's the only pitch he'll throw now. He has no fastball.

I think we've seen the last of Nelson.

I have faith in all of this. Politte will start rocking

Nelson's numbers didn't look bad,
His WHIP (3.00) is nearly as high as his ERA (3.38) :o:

Let's be optimistic...this simply increases the pressure on Kenny to solve this black hole with (what looks now to be) a couple of deals, and fast.

I can't speak for anyone else but everytime the bullpen comes in I take a drink. My nerves need it.

And there was a story in one of the newspapers today quoting Nelson as saying that since he was called up he only had one day where he didn't at least warm up let alone come into a game. Perhaps all that action in a short time caught up to him.

LipI'd say it's more likely that all that action over a LONG time caught up with him.

Montero's numbers at Charlotte:

18 G
30.2 IP
2.05 ERA
30 K
8 BB

Those are decent numbers. 30 K's in just over 30 innings and just short of a 4/1 stirkout to walk ratio.

Any scouts out there give us a little info on what he throws and how it looks?

Well, that explains some of it. SMontero can't be any worse...and maybe he'll be an improvement.

Lip,

I read that article too. I saw it in the last two days and I can't find it now. When I saw that I starting thinking that Nelson would go on the DL.

Sounds like Ozzie and Coop overworked him -- maybe because they do not a settled bullpen and they were looking to stop the bleeding. Then again the starting pitching has not been helping matters.

Hopefully, this means Kenny'll either bring up Montero or trade for a quality reliever sometime very soon. Nelson will most likely be given his outright release when he comes off.

I had a 1978 Mecury Montero with Coringthean Leather and a big 55MPh on the speedometer. Montero is better than Politte.
