I figure it's gotta be a misprint. The only time I've ever heard "crosscheck" was in my hockey playing days.

Actually I think Tony LaCava was some kind of scout from the Expos organization.

It is a type of scout, not sure exactly what kind.

I believe a "crosschecker" is a scout that works the nation. He verifies regional scouts and compares notes against other regional scouts to keep all in check.
If a scout works the East, the cross checker verifies that the east scout is using the same grading scale as the west scout would. A crosscheck validates findings nationally.
OR....
He visits alot of churches?

I work with a former Indian's scout, actually the one that signed Thome. He says a crosschecker is the guy that actually checks out the prospects after the scouts recommend them. He says it's usually handled by region and, if he is National crosschecker, it's a pretty important job. He does know him.
