I absolutely HATE Jermaine "Live and Let" Dye.

First of all, WHAT THE HELL DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH JERMAINE DYE?!

It was a movie and the name of a couple of songs. Am I missing something? Is Chris Berman really that big of an idiot? Usually nicknames somehow come from the players. Is he such a tool he is just taking names that sound/look like a word and inserting them into some phrase he heard at some point? Is he allowed to do this? This is probably the one thing that pissed me off more than anything about the post season - more than the fake "curse of shoeless joe" they invented. For god sakes, just say his name.

Sorry for the rant.

Focus: Sweetness is definately #1. Shoeless Joe, Big Hurt and the Galloping Ghost are all top 5 worthy.

What about Ross Gload, whose nickname for my friends and me is just saying his name in a high pitched voice?

I like Berman's nicknames, it's about the only redeeming quality he has as a broadcaster. They have nothing to do with the player, just how his name sounds. My favorite is Pat "I'm getting closer to" Mahomes.

If I hear Jake "daylight come and ya wanna" delhomme one more time I'm going to cut my ears off. Chris Berman is the bane of my existence.

Talk about your great nicknames--where the heck is Walter "No Neck" Williams????

I detect a "throw one in for Boston" bias in that list....let's face it, Ted Williams was great, but his nickname "The Splendid Splinter"??? And it's not like "Shoeless Joe" in the sense that it BECAME his name or was commonly used in conversation.

Good to see beautiful Wheaton make the list with its native son, Harold "Red" Grange....

The Splendid Splinter is one of the greatest nicknames ever! It couldn't be a better description of the player and person, too--equal parts pain in the ass and total greatness.
