According to Bernstein on WSCR, there is a report that Roger Clemens has agreed to a 1-year deal with the 'Stros.

And here ends ESPN's dream of him playing for the Yankees or Red Sox.

I'm not worried. The Sox thrashed him last October. :D:

Good...the AL is already plenty loaded with talent as it is. We could beat him, but he for sure would have added Ws to our competition.

It's up on Rotoworld...

Newsday is reporting that Roger Clemens and the Astros have agreed to a one-year deal.
Newsday says Clemens will get about $3.5 million per month under the terms of the deal. He could have received more from the Yankees, Red Sox and probably the Rangers, but it comes as no surprise that he wanted to stay home.

But Steve Phillips just said on Baseball Tonight that he was going to either New York or Boston. If he's wrong then what is this world coming to?

Beantown buddy of mine says Rocket's agent was just on the radio saying nothing's happened yet. Just FWIW, but so far, all I've seen reported is Newsday saying it and everyone else saying "Newsday reports.....".

Really, he's a lifelong Cubs fan. He wanted to play there, but the Cubs didn't have room for him.

Houston is denying the story.

Clemens trying to drive up the price?

I hope he lands in houston.

Less focus on him by espn if he is in texas.

A Red Sox fan friend of my mine was sure the Rocket would be back in Boston. I should have put money on that.

If this does happen, I'm glad Clemens chose the Astros over the Red Sox. Could you imagine having to face Schilling, Beckett and Clemens in a short series? :o:

On paper, in a videogame, or in real life?

On paper or in MLB 2006, those three guys throw three straight complete game shutouts. In real life, Schilling's ankle blows up in the third inning, Beckett's fingernail falls off and he gets a blister in the 2nd inning, and Rocket's hip comes unglued after 3 batters. I say we sweep them in three again.

That's better than facing Oswalt, Clemens, and Pettite.

And that worked out just fine last I remember.

What kind of shape is he in? No spring training? How the hell can everyone just expect him to just up and dominate?

That's because he WON'T dominate. He was a bust in the world series, and the world baseball circus. He will be a bust in Houston too.

I would think he's been working out pretty hard to maintain his shape following the WBC. I don't think he'll dominate, but a record like 11-5 is not unrealistic for him assuming he starts mid-June.

Clemens was actually pretty good in the WBC. He was bad in the World Series because he was injured. He probably won't be as good this year as he was last year (ie. 1.87 ERA good), but I don't think anyone should be surprised if Clemens is one of the top pitchers in the league for the 2nd half. He has reportedly been following a very strict workout regimen.

I see. I was expecting him to be doing what I'd do if I wasn't working. Sitting around and vegetating.

According to the ESPN article he could be back with the team around June 22nd, that would be fitting if he came back the 23rd.

If we were all allowed to take half a season off to train instead of perform like everyone else, we'd all kick ass.

My prediction: the Rocket fizzles, as do the Stros. Book it. If this prediction proves folly, Jjav has the exclusive rights to quote this post and throw it back at me.

I wonder if Clemens starts one of the three games at Soxpark? Between the stros and cards, the hype for those series will be off the charts. Throw in Clemens and it will be a big time event.

This is shaping up as a second special season on the south side. It will be a hard ticket on summer weekends the rest of the way.

Go Sox.

Is there any chance of Clemens pitching vs Prior in a battle of the network stars!? :bandance:
