I had the Cub national broadcast on yesterday for less than a minute and heard this classic McCarverism, "...rarely do you see a 3-6-3 double play with the pitcher covering first base..." No Tim, I'll bet you've never seen that before, because they call that a 3-6-1 double play. Idiot.

I've heard a couple of Santo gems lately, but I can't listen to him for more than a couple of minutes without getting real uncomfortable, like I'm making fun of a handicapped person or something.

Farmer and Singleton......nevermind.

In honor of his frequent statements of the obvious and of the stupid, my friends and I have always called McCarver "Mr. Baseball."

"By running to first base he was able to get there much faster than if he had walked, allowing him to beat the throw."

McCarver as a major tool can be best summarized by the following (after christening Jose Vizcaino as the hero in World Series Game #2):

That's because you are. :redneck But he's still the worst broadcaster ever. Way worse than Singleton. At least Singleton talks, albeit very slowly sometimes. All Santo does is moan and groan.

There is not a single Cub fan I know that says from a style and broadcasting standpoint, Santo should be within ten miles of a microphone. He's obviously tolerated because it's generally agreed he "bleeds Cubbie blue". So he had a connection with the masochists who tune into WGN. :o:

I can't stop laughing at the idiocy of this statement and thinking of possible responses to it.

Geez. I've been keeping score at every game I've gone to since I was 9. Maybe I can have his job.

It's a guilty pleasure to turn the radio on and hear Ron get so frustrated he just wants to break down and cry.
