No one on the roster per se.

Mackowiak?

Is Sandy Alomar still lurking around the clubhouse?

Mackowiak is.... supposedly... but if either of those guys goes down I guarantee we call up Stewart...

I thought I heard somewhere that Ozuna would be considered a back-up catcher as well.

According to the Sox fans behind me Saturday, our 3rd string catcher is a Hawaiian guy who has not played the last few weeks. I could only assume they meant M. Lee, but my God, they were a bunch of dolts.

Could be, but Konerko was drafted as a catcher, so it could be him. But if Ozuna could do it, you use him b/c you don't want PK getting hurt.

No, I think you meant Ed Hermann.
Not a dis. I'm sure you're info is good but could you imagine Ozuna gearing up to play C?! Blocking the plate?!! He was running from the squirrel on Monday.

I read the same thing. I read somewhere that Ozuna was the one player on the Sox that could play any position.

The last thing I would want to see is Konerko forced to play there. I'm sure Pablo would get put in, hit a triple, and throw out three runners in the 9th.

Mack can be, but if the need should arise, and let's hope it never does, I'm sure KW will make a trade. If AJ went down, God forbid, he would make a move for a MLB ready catcher, if Widger does, I think he will just go to the farm system and get soemone who can at least hold their weight one day a week.

Guys, I'd do it in a minute. Even give back half of ML minimum. I wore the tools of ignorance in Japan, even hit .244 in the Industrial League.

I shall use it until people stop blatantly trying to jinx us, or I can find a new, relevant pic.

Some Hawaiian guy? The last Hawaiian guy I remember on the Sox was Johnny "Pineapple" Matias, who hit about .500 in spring training before the 1970 season, made the opening day lineup after six minor league seasons and proceed to hit .188 in his 58-game major league career.

But that was 36 years ago, and he never caught.

See, that's where the Management went wrong with him - if they had played him at C, it might have kept his head in the game more and improved his BA!

That would keep him a safe distance from the outfield...

We had the same question at the game on Monday night when AJ pinch hit and replaced Widger... What if AJ got plunked or hurt at the plate.....

As the Sox oldest catcher in uniform, bullpen coach Art Kusnyer, might put it, you've just got to finish the game.

I distinctly remember a game back in the Josh Paul era when both our #1 and our #2 catcher were forced to leave the game with injuries. So Josh Paul came in.

There are many scenarios in which this could happen. Widger could start, get injured or pinch hit for, and then sometime later in the game AJ gets ejected or injured.

Ozzie always says Jon [Garland] is the most natural athlete on the team.

Maybe there was more to the extension than we thought.

I thought I heard Mackowiak could play the position if need be, along with, *gulp* Ozuna.

I'd guess the Sox would make a deal for a catcher should AJ or Widger ever get seriously hurt. Maybe Barrett!

Yeah I thought in the Tribune a while ago they mentioned that Mack would be the 3rd string catcher if need be. Where are Sandy Alomar Jr. and Chad Krueter when you need them?

I liked Matt LeCroy's comment: "If my daddy was managing this team, he'd have did the same thing."

Actually Joe De Sa was with the Sox for 28 games during the 1985 season. He was killed in a car crash in Puerto Rico the next offseason.
