There was an interesting foursome at Augusta National Golf Club last weekend -- Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks, general manager John Hart, assistant GM Grady Fuson and shortstop Alex Rodriguez.

Maybe New York Mets GM Steve Phillips was right, when he insinuated that bringing Rodriguez onto a team can created a "24-1" situation in which the shortstop is separate from the rest of his team.

Hicks speaks with Rodriguez nearly every day. Hart runs every move past Rodriguez. The shortstop picked two of the current coaches -- insisting that batting coach Rudy Jaramillo stay on and third-base and infield coach Steve Smith be added.

And then there is the alliance with agent Scott Boras, who brought Rodriguez to the Rangers. With this week's signing of free agent, right-hander Ismael Valdes, the Rangers now have eight Boras clients in the organization.

Shades of the Montreal Expos in the mid-1980s, when agent Dick Moss almost had 10 players on the roster and had more access during spring training than some front-office employees.
