You shouldn't be surprised. AJ is one of the most hated players in the league, but that's why you want him on your team.

I've checked other forums and similar things are being said there too. I can't understand why a person would want any professional athlete to get punched in the face. It just seems malicious to me.

Here's the discussion of the fight on a board I frequent:

http://forums.mlbcenter.com/index.php?showtopic=26196&st=0 (http://forums.mlbcenter.com/index.php?showtopic=26196&st=0)

It seems that nearly everyone is glad it happened to AJ; I made it a point to argue otherwise. The one Cubs fan who decided to pursue the conversation tried to turn it into how Ozzie would react if the situation were vice versa, playing to the Ozzie Guillen haters. It's absolutely incredible to witness the ignorance and idiocy of some people.

Lets relate this logic to other situations in life:

Joe Smith ate my sandwitch at work and called me a jerk, so I punched him
or at softball someone slid into home plate over me and was happy about it , so I punched him

lets just let punchiung be appropriate behavior with people who are annoying

The thing the Ozzie haters forget is that the same basic thing DID happen to the Sox, the Torii/Burke Incident, and Ozzie basically said that he wanted the Sox to play like Torii did on that play.
Ozzie doesn't stupidly defend his players, he defends them when they're right.
If you search-engine the phrase "Torii Hunter Jamie Burke collision", you'll get a link to the whitesox.com recap of the incident with some interesting Ozzie quotes that can apply to what happened yesterday.

Why Are Cub fans This stupid? (not all are as incredibly dumb as the rest of them I know)
He didnt have the ball is not an excuse to punch someone.

Most of the other decent forums aren't overly upset that AJ was on the receiving end but very few posters believe he "deserved" it. Only goofballs in Chicago believe that.

I love being hated winners instead of lovable losers.

Who gives a **** what other people say/think? This isn't a popularity contest.

How is it even possible to have a smart baseball discussion on that board?
