The columnists in todays papers all seem to have the Cubs on their minds. Mariotti today talks about the Cubs freefall and how bad this is for them to visit the Cell. Not much seems to be made of the SOX stumbling to 2nd place very quietly. Not sure how to take that. Still no word on the identity of Trixie McWrigley, the alleged drunken and underaged vixen who along with the hundreds of "fans" in the bleachers, hurled insults, catcalls, and racial epithets finally focusing all her anger and Whipping a baseball at Jacque Jones. She was "detained" but explained she was throwing a "homerun ball" back, like everyone else does "on tv". One problem. There wasnt a Home Run hit by the Nationals that evening.
They let her go and refuse to disclose her name.

Despite Winning the World Series in 2005, the WHITE SOX INEXPLICABLY find themselves lagging far behind in Media Coverage to a team that hasnt won anything of significance since the Roosevelt administration, and finished in 4th place last year.

Im surprised, there are a number of Marlin fans who realize the magnitude of whats happening and sympathize. One of the mods there "Cub fans ....have no class. Their fans make me hate their team. Go Sox."
There are a number of apologists who believe all the myths though. Cant blame them, thats whats been spewed out there for years and years.

To Knue, Lipinski, and the rest of the employees of the Chicago Tribune:

Why have you written so many more stories on the Cubs than the Sox this season? Have you gone from being a national newspaper to a North Side paper? What happened to your journalistic integrity? Did it go out the window with Dewey defeats Truman?

How about today's Teddy Greenstein column. He "grades" the broadcast teams on radio & T.V. for both clubs. Now, while I hate to admit it, I, for the most part, agree with alot of what he says about 3 of the 4. BUT, he gives an "A-" to the Cubs radio team of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Stupid. Once again, more idiotic praise and propping up of the piece of garbage that is Ron Santo. Is there some section in the Tribune employee handbook which states that there shall be no criticizm of him, or discussion about what a vile, bitter person he is, at any time ?; And there shall only be praise and good things heaped upon him and everything he does, and he shall be hyped and overexposed as the greatest, most wonderful human being ever ?

Pat Hughes, even though he can be way overly bombastic, at least does his homework and can make a thoughtful lucid comment on a visiting teams player. Santo? He simply Grunts. Im sorry. Very Sorry, but hes a MORON who is riding the cubbytrain because they simply have no real heroes on that side of town. Good ballplayer, horrid announcer

ALso today, Mike Downey has a sort of History Lesson for cub fans.
He Gratutiously reminds them what the whole Eamus Catuli thing means,
and the significance of the numbers. You would be surprised. a Majority of Cub fans had NO IDEA what that was there for. The media is quietly reaching out to its favored fanbase before we make fun of them.

In short, the answer is yes, of course.

Wasn't it last year that Santo and Hughes finished last in a USAtoday ranking of baseball radio announcers?

Yes. Keep in mind that ranking was by an independent newspaper. The Tribune has turned into a journalistic joke.

Grammar Police here -- your verb tense is incorrect. To say it "has turned into" a joke implies that at one time it was not. The correct phrasing should be: "The Tribune is a journalistic joke."
