Looks like Jerry is awake!

Bench Coach Jerry Manuel of the Mets was ejected from the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning by home plate umpire Tim Welke.

It's an old photo, but Manuel is indeed the Mets 3B coach, and was indeed ejected today in the 3rd inning, no doubt driven mad by the stupid antics of Jose Lima.

Uh, oh...Yeah that has to be when he was with the Sox. I think I was at that game too. They had a giveaway of the 1917 hats.

Maybe I am missing something in your post, but I am pretty sure that this picture was taken at Comiskey.

First of all, the dugout behind Manuel looks EXACTLY like the Sox dugout at the time (2001). Secondly, the colors and the dugout look NOTHING like the park in San Fransisco. I have been to New Candlestick/SBC/PACBELL/whatever the hell they are calling it these days park and the dugouts have always been black and green IIRC.

And thirdly, he is wearing the Sox home throwback jersey. If someone in this thread had not said it was taken in 2001, I would have sworn it was taken in 2003. The reason for this is because I really don't remember the Sox wearing these throwback jerseys in 2001, but I'm probably wrong. The last time I recall them wearing these jerseys was the 2003 game in which Esteban Loaiza got his 20th win of the season. It was a day game and one of the last games of the season, obviously in this picture the game is taking place during the day, but why knows.

And to hijack this thread just slightly, I must say that I find it INCREDIBLY annoying how the NBA allows teams to wear their traditionally "away" uniforms at home, and "home" jerseys on the road.

For as long as I can remember, in the NBA, the home team wears the lighter colors, and the away team wears the darker colors, even when the alternates are used (think of the Bulls black jerseys). Normally, I wouldn't make a fuss about what jerseys teams choose to wear, but the reason it pisses me off is because of still photos. Like in Sports Illustrated, they have awesome pictures and if there is a picture, specifically a close-up picture where you can't see the surroundings of the stadium, you could always tell who was the home team in the picture based on what jerseys they were wearing.

But now, if there is a close-up, you have no idea if the game was at home or on the road because the NBA is allowing teams to wear whatever jerseys they want at any time. I know that to most people is not an issue, but it gets me mad!

I remember one of the last Bulls games of the regular season when they were on the road in Miami. The Bulls wore their home whites, and when I saw the still pictures of the game up on Yahoo, I was like, "I thought the Bulls were away in Miami?!?!":?: It made me confused for a second until I realized that teams do this crap now.

If David Stern is so concerned with the players and teams appearance, and obviously he is (dress code), then he should not allow teams to wear their home jerseys on the road and vice versa. It just looks retarded. Okay, my rant is over, thank you for your time!

The uniform that Manuel is wearing was worn in 2001. The game you are remembering in September 2003 was when the Sox wore their 1983 throwbacks to celebrate the 20th anniversary of winning the AL West.

I remember that game very well. The Sox were playing the A's at home (obviously because of their 1917 throwbacks) and the game was on WGN. I forget what he got mad about, but Manuel was livid that day.

Your right! Thank you for clearing that up for me! I knew that on the day that Loaiza picked up his 20th win that the Sox wore different jerseys other then their normal ones. And for some reason I thought it was the 1917 ones, the one Manuel is wearing where he is arguing with the umpire.

But that's what I LOVE about WSI! If you make a mistake or can't remember something, there is ALWAYS a person who remembers the facts correctly and can clue a person in!

Thank you very much BABYFISK for refreshing my mind!

:gulp: to you!

Yes this is true. Every Sunday home game they wore these uni's. Dvaid Wells used to like them because they didn't make him look so fat.

They must've been made of some kind of magical material to do that!

I think he might have been made at the umpires, perhaps over a contested call....

This was the third game of a Crosstown Series that the Sox won. In that game, Manuel was ejected after the home plate umpire ruled that Sammy Sosa was hit by a pitch. Manuel believed otherwise.

Right on. But then I liked whole 80's thing too. Heck, I remember when they had the vote in the scorecard on which uniform should replace the softball jerseys when Jerry and Eddie took over.

Oh yeah remember the ones that DIDN'T win! :o: Yikes!

By the way I must be easy to please because I like ALL our old uniforms. I'm still waiting for the Veeck-era softball uniforms or the red pinstripes to make a throwback appearance one of these years.
