Facing mounting questions as to WHY the Cubs would simply let a drunk Trixie go Free after hurling a baseball at Jacque Jones, the Cubs decide to let us know why. They accepted her explanation, that she was simply imitating the fans she sees throwing homerun balls back onto the field.

Is this not the absolute DUMBEST thing we've heard yet from them? If thats not a Stupid Cub Fan Moment, I dont know what is. The Tribune owned Cubs are making sure her name doesnt get all over now, and this has been cleanly swept under the rug.

I read that to and I have to agree, after all the CUBS were up the previous half inning and I don't believe any homers were hit by the oposing team durring that half inning... They want this to go away and the sad fact of the matter is 75% of the readers will see this as an acceptable excuse...

Yesterday there was a caller on the Score on my way home from work that hypothesized that Trixie was probably an underage drinker, and if they would have arrested her or something of that nature the Cubune would have to fess up for serving a minor. Not to mention the legal ramifications of all that that entails. Just a thought.

What really irks me is that the marketing department said they will not asks fans to stop throwing balls onto the field. Isn't it official MLB policy that a fan throwing ANYTHING on the field is subject to ejection? How can Cubs marketing get away with that statement?

If I can't throw a ball on the field at Wrigley, I'm not going to the games!

Im really starting to believe this. IF anyones been out to the bleachers in the last 10 or so years, its a Cuss, budweiser flowing party out there, where racial slurs are hurled at players, bimbettes frolic and prance, and Chads guzzle and puke. You have to move people out of your way to watch the game. Its a Party gone wild, and ive seen many a Trixie with a (Insert highschool name here) HS sweatshirt/tshirt on. How would it be a stretch that a Chad passes some of the Trixies a few Budweisers ...............
Best part is .................
nobodies watching the game, everyones there to PARTAYYYY.

That's what makes it so odd. It is sort of like speeding. Yeah, going 60 in a 55 zone is speeding but cops will rarely pull someone over just like someone will rarely get tossed for throwing back a home run ball, Wrigley or otherwise.

But for Cubs marketing to take an official stance that is in direct conflict with MLB policy is mind-boggling. You would never hear the sheriff's office make a statement like "We will not pull people over for speeding a couple miles over the limit".

Bizarro.

Well, the Cubs have just given EVERYONE a free pass to throw things on the field. ITS OK EVERYONE. Its Customary here at Wrigley Field I was disgusted with the trib this morning. 2 articles focusing on Wood's return and 2 articles poo-pooing the ball incident.

1. No home run to throw back so *** are they talking about?
2. Probably underage as mentioned, but the Trib tries to dispel this by having Horsejive make up a mythical 27 year old named Kate T. Rixie that wouldn't return his call.
3. New ad - Come to Wrigley were being drunk and throwing stuff on the field is a 10 year tradition.
4. I seriously think this is worse than the snails. Why isn't the suntimes having a field day with this. They could make that paper look so bad it isn't even funny.

This is absolutely ridiculous. You can bet your ass that if a drunk Flub fan did this at the Cell this weekend the Cubune would be all over slamming our fanbase and when the person was arrested they would say they were a Sox fan just to put a negative stereotype out there for the Cubune to feast on. Since this is the Cubs, and their fans can do no wrong, this is not a big story outside of Chicago, But if this happened at the Cell this weekend,(and most likely it would have been a drunk Flub fan) it probably would be on ESPN and they would be talking about it nonstop like they did when those ****heads attacked Tom Gamboa.

I still can't stand him but that was a very well written article. I do have one question though based on the following quote in that article. "One of the annual rites associated with the Crosstown Showdown is comparing the teams by position and creating an all-city team. Normally, one team manages a slight edge. I came up with one Cub. Greg Maddux, who makes the rotation." Are the Sun Times and Trib going to do the yearly position by position comparisons this year as they always do? I'll bet the Trib decides to quietly eliminate that tradition this year since it's such a landslide. Can't wait to get the paper tomorrow.

Don't let this moron fool you with this. The Sox are tied for the best record in baseball, defending World Series champs, and the Cubs are having several issues. How would Barrett beat AJ?

If Barrett was given a baseball bat, and AJ was blindfolded and hog tied.

Seriously, this reminds me of the Tribune's preview of the second-round playoff matchup between the Bears and 49ers in January 1995. Even though I was and remain a Bears fan who despises the 49ers for the way they beat us so many times, especially in the playoffs and on Monday nights, I acknowledge that in 1994, the 49ers were far and away the superior team and the Bears were no more than an anthill obstructing the 49ers run to the Super Bowl in which they destroyed the Chargers. Anyway, in that Sunday's paper, the Tribune rated which team had better units within each positional grouping. They ranked the 49ers better at QB, RB, receivers/tight ends, special teams, d-line, linebackers and intangibles. They threw the home-town Bears a bone by giving them the edge in the defensive backfield, despite the fact that the 49ers had three Pro-Bowl defensive backs among the four starters.

Similarly, even though they have to acknowledge that the Sox are the far superior team, the World Champions, and tied for the best record in the majors, the Tribune will give the Cubs the benefit of the doubt and preferential "home town" treatment.

AJ's job on offense is to re-stock the bases. It is not his job to hit homers, or aim for cheap "Sandberg/Bozo" basket homers. How many RBI would Manny Ramirez have if he batted behind Thome (60+ HR pace), Konerko (on pace for career-high batting average and hits) and Dye (28 RBI in the last 24 games)?

I wonder if Teddy's parents named him in honor of who was president the last time the Cubs won anything of significance?

I actually just found a wrigley field players parking pass and on the back it clearly states:

"The holder of this parking pass assumes all risk and danger incidental to the game, weather occuring prior to, durring, or susequent to the actual playing of the game, including (but not specifically) the danger of being injured by thrown bats and thrown or batted balls from the stands as these are traditions that have been around for longer than the game at Wrigley, and agrees that the Cubs, Visitor, MLB, Wrigley Field, The Tribune Corporation, their respective owners, shareholders, partners, agents, fans, officers, directors, contractors, employees are not liable for injuries resulting from such causes."

Pretty Clear, I think!

If Barrett was given a baseball bat, and AJ was blindfolded and hog tied.

in 1994, the 49ers were far and away the superior team and the Bears were no more than an anthill obstructing the 49ers run to the Super Bowl

the barret / AJ teal is a good one, but the '84 Bears an anthill in front of the forty-whiners?!, cmon the game was tied from start to 1/2 way through the 3rd qtr, and I'll put Todd Bell, Duerson, & especially Leslie Frazier over any of the 49er All-Pro Dbacks any day of the week, in reality, the Bears were one healthy McMahon away from beating the whiners that day, no more, no less, <end hijack>

He was referring to the 1994 team, not 1984. The 1994 Bears vs the 1994 49ers was no contest. The 1994 49ers, IMO, was the second best team in my lifetime behind the 1985 Bears. Yes, the 1984 defense gave the 49ers all they could until they wore down at the end of the game.

I stand corrected. In '94 West and I retreated to Armadillo Willy's at halftime and tried to eat our way out of it. The Los Altos location was totally empty and we ate our 4 slabs of back ribs and all the sides in silent peace.

Let's see, hot to these guys is ...

... any drunk, drooling, nearly comatose teenager with two X-chromosomes and a beer covered Scrubs T-shirt

So this bimbo said she threw the ball because she saw it done on TV? What is she, a chimpanzee?
