I wish I could have seen it.

It didn't really register with me when it first happened. I was thinking "Ho hum, looks like they'll grab two" but I totally forgot there was a runner on second. A very effortless triple play.

I'm sure it will be up on whitesox.com in just a few...

The clip is already available on whitesox.com, but it's hidden in the article about the triple play itself:

I didn't see it. Were the runners in motion? If not, how can you get tripled up on a bunt?

Very nice. ESPN sure as hell isn't showing it yet. :(:

Neither is Comcast for that matter...

That didn't work on account of the plugins, but I'll catch the replay on the news soon.

Yes terrible base running by the Twins, especially Punto. He never even made an attempt to get back to second.

Yeah they were quite definitely in motion. Neither of them even looked to see if the ball hit the ground or not. Quite terribly baserunning, in my opinion. But still, I'll take it

Agreed. You can't fault Stewart too much but Punto might have been able to make it back to second. Even if it wasn't that close, the lack of effort by Punto was sickening. ESPN announcers agreed.

3-4-6 right?

Correct. On the replay, the best part is watching Buehrle yelling to Iguchi to "go two" after the force at first.

I just saw it on the Channel 5 News, that looked very effortless.

By the way, the guy who does the sports on Channel 5 is as bad a Chris Singleton.

i have to disagree here.. the runner on second (punto i believe) did look in.. then stutter stepped towards 3rd.. stopped.. then broke towards 3rd... but not really.. he definitely could have made it back.. i was really confused.

for those who didn't see it, the runners weren't in motion (at least not IMO), they just couldn't read whether or not the bunt was going to be caught by paulie. konerko caught it at his shoe-strings; therefore, it was difficult for them to read.

Fixed that for you. There can never be a force at first.

It never fails. Whenever there's a high bunt, runners never know whether to take off or stay on. Most of the time, they'll take off, but if that bunt is caught, they'll be tagged out before they can get back in time. Anyway, great job by the infield.

"We were expecting a bunt, but we weren't expecting a triple play," said catcher A.J. Pierzynski (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6109), who hit one of Chicago's three home runs off Carlos Silva (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6880) (2-6). "That was the first one I've seen live. ... I'm just mad Uribe threw the ball in the seats."

Great play. I found it funny though that Jon Miller was the captain of the obvious saying, "And they turn it into an inning ending triple play!"

:?:

I'd hope it ended the inning!

That was hilarious. Just as the announcers were saying how Punto wasn't watching the bunt, they show the replay and Punto is watching the whole thing but keeps running to third anyway. Duh! Hopefully Gardy will have his dumb ass up early tomorrow morning running laps.

Im just glad about this cuz it reminds me of the date now when i was at the park with batman for the last triple play, was a horrible game for the sox but we were wandering fandeck when we saw the triple play crede started, july 7, 2004 accordin to ap\yahoo

Funny thing is, I was doing the same thing from my couch. After PK made that nice catch and tossed it to Iguchi covering first, I was yelling "What about the guy on 2nd ! Throw it to 2nd !!!! They did ! Yes ! Triple play, right ??!! That's a triple play !!! They got it !" For some reason, it seemed to take forever, but when I see the replays, it obviously only took a few seconds. :bandance:

Yeah, I remember that well. It was a sucko game and I wasn't all that attentive at that point, but I happened to watch that whole play develop. That's still the only triple play I've ever seen live, I didn't catch the one last night. I can always say I saw one in person. It was the best kind, too, around the horn wasn't it? Smash to Crede, step, throw, throw.

Totally agree, CFAD. It was the first triple play in MLB in over a year and the first for the Sox, I believe, since 2004. And I can never recall seeing one performed off a bunt attempt.

Yea, it was the game we walked up right before and got seats second row from the outfield wall by the pen, and that old man stood in the way of me robbing a BP homerun off his wife's chest
